A 19-year-old from New Jersey has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion, during which he allegedly attacked a man with a knife and stole his car, officials said.

The Essex County teen, who has not been identified, faces charges of robbery, armed burglary, theft of movable property and unlawful possession of a weapon, the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement to NJ.com Friday.

He is charged as a minor given that he was 17 years old at the time of the events.

The teen was already being held on unrelated charges in the Bergen County Jail when authorities requested his arrest.

The latest charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 30, 2023 in Tenafly. A local homeowner told authorities that a masked man broke into his Mahan Street home, then attacked him with a knife before fleeing in his vehicle.

The victim suffered a significant contusion to his head and a significant injury to his nose.

The suspect’s arrest comes after a years-long investigation, which included trace analysis, prosecutors said. Authorities provided few other details.

An investigation into this matter is underway.
