Heads of the application of the laws of South Carolina are investigating a fire that swallowed up the domicile of a state judge and a former Democratic State senator, but says that there is no current evidence that the fire has been intentionally put in place.

The fire in an Edisto beach house hospitalized three people on Saturday. The ownership files show that the house belongs to the judge of the Circuit Court Diane Goodstein and her husband, Arnold Goodstein, former senator of the Democratic State.

It was not immediately clear which sparked the fire. A spokesperson for the Southern Carolina’s police division (SLED) told NBC News that he was putting an “active and in progress” investigation and that more information could be published as the case continues.

Later in the day, SLED chief Mark Keel said: “At that time, there was no evidence indicating that the fire was intentionally put” and that the SLED agents “discovered preliminary that there was no evidence in support of an explosion of pre-air”.

The investigation, Keel said in a statement, was “active and in progress” because he urged “citizens, elected officials and press members to exercise good judgment and not share information that has not been verified”.

A spokesperson for the FBI Columbia field office told NBC News that the office was “aware” of the incident, but that the investigation was carried out by the SLED. If the fire was determined as a criminal fire, federal accusations could be applicable.

Although the cause of the fire was not determined, the Democrats quickly pointed out to the right, noting that Goodstein had recently published a temporary decision blocking the attempt to seize the voting registers by the Trump administration.

The rush towards blame comes in the middle of an increase in threats against judges in a year which has experienced major cases of political violence, in particular the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk, for whom the Republicans also quickly blamed the left.

Representative Daniel Goldman, DN.Y., wrote on Sunday that President Donald Trump, his administration and supporters had “doxxing and threatening judges who govern against Trump, including the Goodstein judge” and blamed the fire to “the extreme right”, although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, who was labeled in Goldman’s tweet, replied that Goldman spread “despicable lies”.

A staff member of the Governor of California Gavin Newsom, Izzy Gardon, wrote on X Sunday that the official of the Ministry of Justice, Harmeet Dhillon, had “publicly targeted” the judge of weeks earlier.

After Goodstein temporarily prevented the South Carolina from presenting voting files to the Ministry of Justice, Dhillon had written on X that the Ministry of Justice “would not defend the precipitated cancellation of a judge of the Court of State for our federal voting laws” and that Dhillon “would allow nothing to do in charge of our mandate of clean voters”. His message did not include the name of Goodstein.

The Supreme Court of the State then ruled for the Trump administration, raising the temporary block set up by Goodstein.

Dhillon rejected the link between the fire and the Rhetorical attacks of the Trump administration against the judges and said that the Gardon post had led to her threats.

“The threats against me are referred to American marshals. There have been several this evening. We will not tolerate any threat from these Woke idiots, including those who work for @gavinnewsom” dhillon wrote in an article on X. “Germ yourself accordingly.”

Dhillon also republished a position of his colleague, who said that confusing civil speech with violent acts is “reckless, shameful and downright disgusting”.
