Ukrainian soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety are sent to Forest Glade – Ukraine’s first psychological trauma treatment center – before returning to the front. After three years in Russian captivity following the Battle of Mariupol, Kyrylo Chuvak, 25, spent three weeks at the center, a brief opportunity for rehabilitation. Hidden in the pine trees near kyiv, this modest building offers soldiers psychological therapy as well as tango, archery, guided breathing, medieval games and quiet conversations over tea. After four years of war and with less international attention, the battle is not only being fought on the front lines but in people’s minds.
