While the city of North Chicago is preparing to start the environmental sanitation of the Sheridan Crossing property of 41 acres at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, video games will become a lateral light for companies rather than a primary source of income.

Although the city has not planned to revoke existing video game licenses, it will no longer emit them to companies that play their main source of income or in specific establishments, such as alcohol stores or service stations.

“We help the community to recover,” said Mayor Leon Rockingham, Jr. “You will not see a game fair on every street corner. They will have to count on resources other than games.”

The municipal council of North Chicago voted 6-0 with an absent member on August 4 at the Town Hall to considerably tighten the parts of its city code dealing with video games after having collected information during a one-year moratorium on the granting of licenses.

Finally, video game income can decrease, but Rockingham said it would be replaced by putting more real estate on property tax roles, such as Sheridan Crossing. The city’s full 2024 plan provides for mixed residential and commercial development.

“Right now, he is bringing zero dollar,” said Rockingham. “This will bring hundreds of thousands of dollars to the community during its development. This will give us a regional exhibition, and people from other communities will see a difference. ”

A revolutionary ceremony is already planned to start the sanitation of Sheridan passing grounds to meet the standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Mainly, changes to local game laws will reduce the number of locations where people can play by “attrition” and reduce their proximity, according to a press release from the city.

Although existing companies that already have video game licenses can keep them even if they do not meet the requirements of the legislation, they are personal to the property, not to the company.

If a company with video games were sold, the license is not transferable to a new owner. If part of the property changes in any way, the license “is lost”, according to the order. This includes a new partner or a change of shareholders.

Gregory Jacckson, the chief of the Rockingham staff, said that to obtain a game license, the person must also have an alcohol license. The requirement was always part of the North Chicago order. The two must be renewed each year before May 1.

Video games should not exceed 33% of a company’s income, making it an “accessory or accessory” part of the operation. At the time of renewal, financial reports for the previous four quarters must show the percentage of income from each source.

Establishments with video games cannot be less than 150 feet from each other. Licenses will not be issued for game cafes. Retail stores, alcohol stores or service stations or service stations.

Companies that can offer video games include service restaurants that serve full meals, fraternal organizations, establishments for military veterans and truck stops, as designated by state law.

The outdoor signaling advertising The video game inside is now more closely regulated. The signs of feathers, the inflatable signs, the balloons, the acorns, the ribbons, the spinners or the kite, among other mobile signs, are not authorized, according to the new regulations. The illuminated panels in a window are prohibited.

Responding to requirements is not a guarantee that a video game license will be authorized. Rockingham said that the license approval still requires a voting majority of the municipal council.

“It is the non -compliant municipal council, it can vote it,” said Rockingham.
