Not One but Two High School Championship Football Games End in Insane, Last-Second Fashion – RedState

There’s a lot of bad news to talk about this weekend, but sometimes we need to turn away for a moment to catch our breath and calm our hearts. These two insane high school football games – in state championship games, no less – had the announcers screaming with excitement and the crowds going wild.
Let’s start with this massive effort in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 7A title game, where Lake Mary took on Vero Beach. Down six points to play with just seven seconds left, quarterback Noah Grubbs dropped back to pass and pulled it into the end zone… where it was tipped.
Game over, right? No. A Lake Mary player got the ball and tried to score… only to be quickly surrounded by a bunch of Vero Beach defenders, and there was no hope of going any further. It’s game over this time, right? No. Lake Mary’s Tavarius Brundidge Jr. ripped the ball out of his own player’s hands and…
Okay, you look at the rest:

After this spectacular play, the extra point was good and Lake Mary won its first ever championship, 28-27. Without a doubt, this one will go down in Seminole County, Florida lore.

But I didn’t promise you one but two incredible finishes at the state championships. The second happened at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where Archbishop Shaw High School had all but won the LHSAA Division II Select championship game and was just waiting for the clock to go to zero so they could start pouring Gatorade on the head coach.
But one player started celebrating too soon.
After kneeling, a Shaw lineman ripped off his helmet, threw it in the air and began running toward the sideline, thinking the game was over. This was not the case and the yellow flag was thrown.
A penalty stops the clock.
OK, it’s not the end of the world – all they had to do was clear, then run out of time. But then this happened:
This ending to a high school state championship game was WILD 🤯
Shaw was one knee away from winning the state championship, but an early celebration led to a late St. Charles victory.

Oh my boy.
Surprisingly, the St. Charles Catholic kicker who made a 44-yard field goal as time expired (pretty impressive for a high school kid) had thought just minutes before that he would be the goat in a painful loss:
Given that earlier in the game St. Charles missed an extra point that would have tied the score, the ending was that much worse for Shaw.
But better for Saint-Charles.
“I felt like we lost the game, and then the next thing I know I’m out there making the game-winning basket,” Milioto said of his second chance, according to NOLA.com.
The victory gave St. Charles its fourth state title.
Incredible pieces, young men. There’s something special about high school football, and to winners and losers alike, I say: well done, gentlemen.
