Novak Djokovic makes major decision ahead of 2026 Miami Open

The Miami Open is a two-week Masters 1000 event and the second stop of the Sunshine Double. This year’s tournament draws the biggest names in men’s tennis and runs through the back half of March. The latest development is a major withdrawal of Novak Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the 2026 Miami Open because of a right-shoulder problem. The decision follows a physical week at Indian Wells, where Djokovic lost a tough Round of 16 match to Jack Draper. He will not take the court in Miami and will forfeit the 650 points he earned by reaching last year’s final. That points loss will drop him in the ATP standings, with Alexander Zverev expected to move ahead once the update is applied.

The shoulder issue flared after the Indian Wells defeat. Djokovic and his team chose recovery over a quick return. His earliest likely target to return is the Monte-Carlo Masters in early April, the traditional curtain-raiser to the European clay season. That gives him a few weeks to rest and rehab before the clay swing.
The withdrawal carries clear consequences. He concedes ranking points and a chance to defend a big title. He remains focused on recovery now. Now he turns his focus to recovery and to the clay season.
Djokovic will use the coming weeks to rebuild strength and manage his shoulder. The team will monitor his progress and arrange his schedule around recovery milestones. For now, he sits out Miami and focuses on getting healthy.
