NYC Gets Its First Free Grocery Store

The feather merchants start again; a new business model is coming to the streets of New York, and it’s a model that probably has the new socialist The communist mayor Zohran Mamdani quivered with joy. Of course, like most crazy left ideas, it won’t work, but they’re going to try it anyway: free groceries. As in, no payment. As you go, take whatever you want.

This won’t end well.

A prediction market company best known for allowing users to bet on world events is entering New York’s culinary scene — if only briefly — with the launch of what it calls the city’s first-ever free grocery store.

Polymarket will be open to New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan from noon February 12-16, according to the NYC for Free website. It is described as the city’s first free grocery store, “fully stocked” and requiring no purchase.

Polymarket posted on X on Tuesday that the idea took “months of planning.” In addition to paying the lease, the company said it donated $1 million to the Food Bank For New York City to support “an organization that is changing the way our city responds to hunger.”

I can promise you that no one in New York is starving. Not when the biggest health problem affecting people living below the poverty line in the United States is obesity. No, not a single person in New York is starving. We have, here in the United States, some of the most generous food assistance programs in the known universe, and people are literally getting fatter on these programs.

Photos on social media show the market offering a variety of food staples – from produce, milk, eggs and bread to branded snacks such as Pringles, Sour Patch Kids and Oreo cookies.

Polymarket did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on why it is opening what it calls the city’s first free grocery store.

It’s difficult to make predictions, especially about the future, but I’ll attempt one here: it will fail catastrophically. The first free grocery store should open its doors on Thursday and will remain open until Monday. So the weekend. Here’s my prediction: A horde will descend on this place Thursday and take everything that isn’t nailed down, possibly including shelves and light fixtures. There will be fights; there might well be a riot.

This has to be the worst idea since New Coke. It is, however, a fantastic demonstration of a left-wing ideology completely and utterly liberated from anything approaching common sense, and devoid of any semblance of understanding as to how too many people in the decaying, worm-infested Big Apple will react to this. The cry will ring out – in fact, it has already done so since Polymarket seems determined to spread the news – “Free stuff!”

That’s all it will take. Let the games begin.

Polymarket is supposed to be a prediction market company – in other words, a bookmaker. It is rather surprising that they cannot predict the almost certain outcome of this madness.

Stay tuned – this will definitely be entertaining.
