NYPD cop shoots to death man with boxcutter who charged at police while fighting father

An NYPD officer fatally shot a man who, during a fight with his father, charged police with a box cutter in Queens early Sunday, NYPD officials said.
Police responding to a 911 call about a father-son argument showed up at an apartment building on Nameoke St. near Central Ave. in Far Rockaway around 12:25 a.m., NYPD Patrol Chief Philip Rivera said Sunday morning.
Two uniformed police officers from the 101st Precinct showed up and found the 29-year-old son’s parents outside, Rivera looking sad. Officers entered the apartment with the parents to find their son, but he was not inside, Rivera said.

When they left the apartment, they found the son in a hallway brandishing a box cutter, Rivera said. The father began fighting with his son, Rivera said, and officers repeatedly told the son to drop his gun, but he refused, Rivera said.
The father “then disengaged from the physical altercation with his son and retreated behind the uniformed officers,” Rivera said.
The son charged the officers, leading one officer to fire a Taser and the other to open fire at point-blank range, hitting the son, police said.
Officers performed CPR on the shot son before medics took him to an area hospital, but he could not be saved, Rivera said.
Cops have not yet revealed the name of the dead man.
