Police on Thursday identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of Sincere Campbell, a 17-year-old boy who was gunned down outside a grocery store a block from his family’s home in the Bronx in 2024.

Christopher Mejia, 28, is wanted in connection with the shooting outside the Evergreen Deli and Grocery located at Evergreen and Westchester Aves. in Soundview around 3:25 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2024, cops said.

Mejia has four previous arrests, including assaults in 2019 and 2022, and drunk driving in 2020, cops said. He was recently arrested for driving with a suspended license in 2024, according to law enforcement.

The NYPD also released Mejia’s photo and is asking for the public’s help in finding him.

Surveillance video obtained by Bronx News 12 shows Sincere arguing with several men outside a car on the sidewalk before a hooded gunman draws a gun and opens fire.

Campbell’s mother thought her son was home when police called her late at night, a relative told the Daily News.

“From what his mother told me, she didn’t know he left home,” said Sincere’s mother’s 43-year-old cousin, whose name was Jessica. “The last time she saw him was at midnight. She asked him if he was hungry. He said no and she fell asleep.”

The teen’s family assumes he then walked to the bodega to get a snack.

Jessica said Sincere was a high school senior at Leadership and Public Service High School in Manhattan and wanted to become an engineer for the MTA.

“He and I were talking about him going through an apprenticeship program for the MTA and starting the process of becoming an engineer,” Jessica said. “He was very serious about it since he was in primary school. He loved Thomas the Tank Engine. He always talked about it throughout his life – he wanted to be a railway engineer. He always stayed true to that.”

He also loved watching and reading cartoons, the family said, adding that he was a big fan of basketball and soccer and his favorite players were Stephen Curry and Lionel Messi.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
