NY’s Most Lenient Immigration Judge Gets Culled, and DOJ’s Reaction Is Chef’s Kiss – RedState
Remember the first year of the Trump 2.0 administration, when the Justice Department began cleaning house, as part of the process of repairing the immigration system left in tatters by the former president. Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris? As we have written, more than 100 immigration court judges have been fired or left of their own accord. In another phase of change, the Defense Ministry has brought in hundreds of lawyers from military ranks to serve as judges.

This seems to have kicked things into high gear. Syracuse University’s TRAC program showed that nearly 80% of asylum seekers were deported in the last quarter of 2025. And while this next big win also happened last year, this is the first time the details have been reported.
Among the judges who were selected by the DOJ, according to an exclusive report just published by the NY Post, was New York’s most lenient judge, who gave approval to almost every asylum request presented to his court.
Judge Vivienne Gordon-Uruakpa, who ruled in favor of asylum seekers in 97 percent of cases – more than any of her colleagues in the state – was fired without public notice in September because of her prolific record in asylum rulings, according to a government official.
Gordon-Uruakpa no longer appears on the website of the downtown Manhattan courthouse where she served.

Gordon-Uruakpa, 66, attended Fordham University in the Bronx and Howard University Law School. His experience is in the field of legal aid and criminal defense.
But I think my favorite part of the story was the Justice Department’s comment, after the NY Post asked it about removing the judge’s entry from the court’s home page. They simply said the site was “up to date”.
How perfect is that, readers? I’d call that a chef’s kiss. It seems like just yesterday that Biden-Harris and their cronies at the DOJ and Homeland Security (DHS) were doing everything possible to allow illegal immigrants to cross our borders and remain in the country virtually undetected. Today, the border is locked like a drum.
Earlier in February, my colleague Streiff wrote that the DOJ wasn’t done fixing things, proposing a new rule set to take effect in March that could streamline the immigration case backlog. And while he rightly warns that the expected legal challenges could end up in the Supreme Court, we’ll see what happens in the meantime.
