New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is under fire after calling President Donald Trump “a rapist” in a Friday article on X, which caused generalized defamation accusations and calls for a lawsuit.

The congress posted: “Wow who would have thought that the election of a rapist would have complicated the release of Epstein files?”

The comment ignited an online fire storm.

Many have stressed that Trump was never found responsible for rape in the civil affair brought by the writer E. Jean Carroll. In 2023, a New York jury found Trump responsible for sexual abuse and defamation, but not for rape – a key legal distinction that criticism say that Ocasio -Cortez deliberately ignored.

“Even under ridiculously indulgent standards of NY Times c. SullivanYou have succeeded in incurring the responsibility for defamation. Wow, “wrote Senator Mike Lee (Rutah) on X, referring to the historical defamation case that has established a high bar for defamation complaints against public figures.

“George Stephanopoulos could advise you to delete this tweet,” wrote another user, referring to the own legal problems of ABC host on Trump.

Last year, Trump continued Stephanopoulos and ABC News after the anchor said that the former president was “found responsible for rape” in an interview with the Republican representative of South Caroline Nancy Mace. In December 2024, ABC would have paid the case for $ 16 million – including $ 15 million at the Trump’s presidential foundation and $ 1 million in legal costs – and was publicly excused for error. Laura Loomer called the Ocasio-Cortez “defamatory” tweet and encouraged Trump to bring similar legal action.

“I hope you are prosecuted by Trump for this in the same way as George Stephanopoulos was prosecuted and forced to pay $ 15 million Trump,” said Loopomer.

On Saturday evening, Ocasio-Cortez did not delete the position or responded to the backlash.
