New York – Investigators bring together more details on how a former secondary football player blamed the game for his mental health problems led a deadly attack on an office building that houses the NFL.

Shane Tamura killed four people on Monday before committing suicide, spraying the skyscraper hall with bullets, then continuing his unleashing on the 33rd floor, the authorities announced.

Inside his portfolio, a handwritten note said he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known to the CTE, and accused the NFL of having hidden the dangers of brain lesions related to sports contacts, investigators said.

Detectives were still working to unravel more details on the 27 -year -old history and motivations.

They planned to question a man who provided firearms for the AR-15 style rifle used in the attack, including the lower receiver of the weapon, police commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a statement.

Among the dead were a police officer, a security guard and two people who worked in building companies. An NFL employee was seriously injured but survived.

Tamura, a safety worker at the Las Vegas casino, intended to target the NFL seat in the building but took the bad elevator, officials said.

It is not known if he has shown symptoms of CTE, which can only be diagnosed by examining a brain after death.

Tamura, who played football in high school in California ten years ago but never played in the NFL, had history of mental illness, police said without giving details. In the three -page note found on his body, he accused the NFL of having concealed the dangers for the brain of for -profit players. Degenerative brain disease has been linked to concussion and other repeated head trauma in contact sports such as football.

During a Tuesday evening vigil for those who were killed during the shooting, Muslim leaders, Sikhs, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and others gave prayers in a park at around a dozen houses of houses from where the shooting took place.

Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul spoke of the need for stronger firearms.

“We cannot respond to insane firearm laws through watches,” said Adams.

Tamura’s note has repeatedly said that he was sorry and asked that his brain be studied for CTE.

The NFL denied the link between football and the CTE, but it recognized the link in the 2016 testimony before the Congress and paid more than $ 1.4 billion to retired players to settle complaints linked to concussion.

The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, who works in the offices, described the shooting “an act of unspeakable violence”.

The shooting occurred in a skyscraper on Park Avenue, one of the most recognized streets in the country, a few blocks from the Grand Central Terminal and the Rockefeller Center. He is less than 15 minutes walk from the place where the CEO of Unitedhealthcare, Brian Thompson, was shot dead last December by a man who, according to prosecutors, was angry with what he considered as a greed of companies.

Tamura led through the country in the days before the attack and in New York, said Tisch. The surveillance video showed him leave his BMW outside the building around 6.30 p.m. Monday with a shirt and a buttoned jacket with the rifle by his side.

Once inside the hall, he opened fire and killed Islam and Wesley Lepatner, a real estate framework of the Blackstone investment company, which occupies a large part of the building. Tamura then went to the elevator bank, shooting the NFL employee and an unarmed security guard, Aland Etienne, who helped control access to the upper floors.

Tamura waited until the next elevator arrives in the hall, let a woman get out safely from the elevator, then set it up to the offices of the 33rd floor of the company owner of the building, Rudin Management. He killed a worker for this company before committing suicide, said officials.

Officer Didarul Islam, 36, who kept the building on a security job paid during his death, had been a police officer in New York for more than three years. He was an immigrant from Bangladesh and worked for building safety work approved by the department when he was shot.

Islam leaves a pregnant woman and two children. Friends and family stopped in their Bronx house on Tuesday to deposit food and pay tribute.

“He was a very friendly guy and a worker guy,” said Tanjim Talukdar, who knew him best on Friday prayers. “Whenever I see him or he sees me, he said,” How are you, my brother? ” »»
