Oil field disposal plant in eastern Montana explodes

Sidney, Mont. – The authorities claim that an explosion in a storage and elimination plant in the oil fields in eastern Montana on Wednesday evening was felt by people at 10 miles (16 kilometers), but has caused no injury or death.

The fire continued to burn on Thursday while the emergency teams waited for it to become more sure to approach the site, said Brandon Roth, director of emergencies of the County of Richland.

No one was at the salt water removal plant at around 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of Sidney, Montana, when the explosion occurred, Roth said. It is located in a rural area near the northern Dakota border which is dotted with hundreds of oil and gas and storage sites

Several storage tanks have burned, according to Roth, which did not know what they contained or which company has the installation. The cause was under investigation.
