Oklahoma’s Jaydn Ott offers blunt assessment on difference between Sooners and Cal: ‘These guys care’


One of the biggest surprises in the offseason of university football occurred during the spring transfer window when the ball carrier Jaydn Ott left CAL unexpectedly to seek a new opportunity for the 2025 season. And within 24 hours of the entrance to the transfer portal, OTT announced its decision To transfer to Oklahoma.
Cal was hardly affected by portal defections and finished with a losing record in the three seasons of OTT with the program. Before his first pre-season camp with the Sooners, OTT detailed one of the biggest differences he noticed between his old school and his new, saying that there are “levels” how much his new team cares about his new team.
“I don’t know how to say it well, the biggest difference is that these guys care,” OTT said on Wednesday. “Not to say that my former Cal teammates don’t care, but there are levels and this shows. In the way the guys treat their profession and the frequency they take care of things outside the establishment in order to be good continuous.”
OTT, classified as the third best ball carrier in this year’s portal class, gives Oklahoma a major boost before a brand season or rupture. Oklahoma ranked 11th in the dry in the grounds on the ground by match (155.2) during the 2024 campaign. OTT was limited to 10 games last season after undergoing an ankle injury against UC Davis during the opening of the CAL season which focused throughout the campaign. He finished the 2024 campaign with 385 yards on the ground and four affected. OTT with an average of 109.5 yards per game during its season in small groups in 2023, which ranked ninth in the country. He finished this season with 1,305 yards and 12 affected.
OTT is also an excellent receiver off the back field. During his three seasons in Berkeley, he compiled 95 catches for 736 yards and six scores.
OTT and Oklahoma open the 2025 season against the Illinois State on August 30.
