ACA Subsidy Expiration Date We Enacted Isn’t Our Fault
On CNN’s “The Lead” Friday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said there was an expiration date on the Obamacare subsidies “because that was all we could get. But we’ve been advocating for months for a renewal of these tax credits. So I don’t accept this particular Republican talking point” that the expiration date Democrats put in place is an expiration date. Democratic politics.
Host Jake Tapper said, “It was the Democrats who set this end date for these COVID-era Obamacare premium extensions, not the Republicans. »
Raskin replied: “[B]Besides, the reason it expired is because that was all we could get. But we have been calling for the renewal of these tax credits for months. So, I don’t buy this particular Republican talking point. We all have the opportunity to do the right thing, right now, together, and we should do it. And we’re asking them to come back to Washington and do their job, or at least not get their pay from last month, while they’re talking about taking furloughed federal workers off their pay and not allowing them to get paid at the end.”
