Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot owned by billionaire Elon Musk, doxxed Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy on Saturday by posting his home address on

The incident began Saturday when Portnoy shared an image of his lawn after it was vandalized as part of a college football rivalry. A commenter responded by tagging Grok and asking, “Where is this??” after noticing a manatee-themed mailbox in the photo.

Grok responded with a Florida address, noting that “the Manatee mailbox fits the vibe of the Keys perfectly!” »

As first reported by Futurism, Google Streetview’s analysis of the address appears to match the photo Portnoy posted. The data is also confirmed by an October Wall Street Journal article detailing Portnoy’s recent purchase of a $28 million compound in the same city Grok mentioned.

A review of the address on Google Earth by Straight Arrow News also matches photos mentioned in news reports about Portnoy’s acquisition.

Grok’s response violated X standards

The post containing the address, according to X’s analyses, has been viewed more than 3 million times. Another user’s attempts to get Grok to reveal his own address failed.

“Sorry, I don’t have access to personal information like your address for privacy reasons,” Grok replied. “If you’re really lost, try using your phone’s GPS, Google Maps, or ask a trusted friend/family member. Stay safe!”

X’s rules and policies state that users “may not threaten to expose, induce others to expose, or publish or post private information of others without their express authorization and permission.”

“Sharing a person’s private information online without their permission, sometimes called “doxxing,” is a violation of privacy and can pose serious risks to the safety and security of those involved,” the policy states.

It is unclear if and how these same rules apply when Grok is forced to disclose such information.

Neither X, Musk nor Portnoy have publicly commented on this post.
