Jets QB Justin Fields on loss to Steelers: ‘We gotta get better’

There are no moral victories in the NFL.
The jets underwent a disappointing defeat of 34-32 against the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers at the opening of the season.
However, Justin Fields says there are a few positive dishes on which jets could potentially rely.
“I think we played well, I think we have run well the ball,” said Fields after the match. “The offensive line did an excellent job. We had only one bag and it was in the red zone.
“I think that as a team, I think we are careful in the fight. This turnover, they marked, but we returned and we did not leave this phase.
“As you said, no moral victories. In the end, we lost and we have to get better and that’s what we are going to do this week.”
What did the fields mean when he said he didn’t think “many people” expected the jets to go out like that?
“I just call it for what it is,” said Fields. “They acquired all these guys during the offseason, the future temple of fame on this side of the ball and we took 32 years and there were still parts that were left there. So, as I said, all we have to do is continue to build and continue to improve.”
Few people gave the jets a chance to win this match, to which Fields was referring to. The jets have not made the playoffs since 2010 and come out of a disappointing 5-12 season. But it was with Aaron Rodgers under the center and fully different coaches.
On Sunday, the jets looked more like a team that does not rebuild, but which has a chance to participate in the AFC with the power of their attack with the fields under the center.
Fields was great during his start in jets after finishing 16 passes out of 22 for 218 yards and a pass of a touchdown. He also rushed to 48 yards and two affected in defeat.
His chemistry with Garrett Wilson was also undeniable after the two connected for seven captures for 95 yards and a touchdown. The two seemed a lot of return to their days at the Ohio State, where they had been teammates for two seasons.
“This boy is a dog,” said Wilson about Fields. “He is the man I know. He came out and put everything on the field each time, each game.
“He does not give up, and I know that things like that inspire guys on the field with him and probably for the guys who look. It was good to be back with Justin.”
The jets signed fields to a $ 40 million contract over two years during the off -season after officially published Rodgers in March. Shortly after signing, Glenn said that the plan was to let Fields play in a quarter and not only use his legs. The offensive coordinator of the Tanner Engstrand jets has indeed left the fields to use its temporary capacity to play on the ground.
Fields’ pass numbers will not jump from the page after launching for fewer yards than Rodgers, which finished 22 passes by 30 for 244 yards and four affected in victory. But Fields did an excellent job to take what the defense gave him.
During its four seasons with the Bears and Steelers, Fields had a percentage of completion of 61.1%, which was lower than the league average compared to last season (65.3%). But he completed 72.7% of his passes, and he was cool, calm and collected in the pocket.
Unlike the pre-season and training camp, while Fields was sometimes uneven, he did not hesitate to deliver the ball to the field in Wilson and other jet targets. It has an average of 9.9 yards by attempted passage, which was more than Rodgers on Sunday (8.8).
Fields also had the defense of the Steelers with his legs by escaping the bags and extending the games to give his receivers a chance to play on the ground.
“I thought he had done an exceptional, exceptional job,” said Jets coach Aaron Glenn about Fields. “Again, I want to go back and look at the band, but just with a naked eye, I thought he had done a good job.”
The defense of the jets was surprisingly the unit which was lower than the steelers. They granted 271 yards in total and Rodgers separated them when it counted.
Rodgers launched two affected within 50 seconds after the jet turnr, Xavier Gipson, escaped the ball on the 22 yards of the team. This set up the touch of 18 yards of Rodgers to Calvin Austin III, which gave the Steelers an advance of 31-26 in the fourth quarter after being down to nine points in third.
During the previous three seasons, the jets had a defense among the first three in the league. But they played anywhere near this standard against the Steelers.
“We have abandoned too many points,” said Glenn. “I can’t do that.”
In addition to the defense that does not play well, the jets also committed seven penalties, which was an accent with Glenn since he took the post. One of them was a flag on John Simpson after being called to unnecessary roughness after having first hit Jalen Ramsey after the end of the game.
Ramsey struck the fields after launching the ball on a 2nd and two to the 41 of the jets with 19 seconds to do. Due to the penalty, the jets could not add their advance of 19-17 before half-time.
“I was just trying to protect my quarter-Arrière,” said Simpson after the match. “As I said, it can’t happen and I have to be better.”
