These buccaneers explode more than simple sea songs.

Bronx waters have become an aquatic nightclub because the so-called “party pirates” have anchored boats equipped with massive speaker systems near City Island and create a din that makes residents crazy.

Some residents say that the tunes played by gigantic “churchero” speakers aboard the wild motorcycle “can wake up the dead” – while crowds of slightly dressed women sometimes using a stripper post and other charges live on board.

“We started to notice it about eight years ago, but it was a couple of Knuckleheads having fun, the noise was not crazy as it had become,” said John Sheridan, an island of the city almost for life.

“Then Covid came, and people started having fun on steroids on boats.”

The heckling often occurs every night in summer around Hart Island, the city’s public cemetery at the western end of the long Island Sound, in the Bronx.

The “pirate” ships go within reach of the residents of City Island, linking together to combine parties and exploding their stereo systems.

“You hear it at the start of the evening, but generally it’s a boat passing,” said Bob Preti, who moved to City Island in 2018. “At 10 a.m., the boats come across anchor and the party continues again and again.

“The Sunday evening phenomenon is very funny because it takes place” until 4 am, you might think that they have to work on Monday. ”

Rocking yachts and jet ski have recently led to major problems that go beyond noise. In June, nearly two dozen passengers were injured when a 35 -foot party boat caught fire on the shore of the Bronx. The 33 -year -old captain of the boat was charged with drunkenness.

Recreational boats operators are considered to be influenced if they record a baccalaureate of 0.08% or more. For commercial boaters, it is 0.04%.

“You hear strong music at 3 or 4 in the morning,” said Frederick Ramftl, president of City Island Civic Association. “There are also parties on Eastchester bay, not only by Hart Island, so it’s everywhere in the region here.”

An Islandor of the city for life, which requested anonymity, has seen a constantly disturbing behavior of boaters.

“I saw them get out of the vans in flip -flops and knitted tops to get on the boats,” the person told post.

Residents and local officials want the presence of both the port of NYPD and the Coast Guard of the United States around the reinforced city island to discourage celebration hackers.

“My office is trying to work with the NYPD to finance an additional port unit for a patrol stationed on the north shore during the summer months,” said Kristy Marmorato of the Bronx. “We still have no confirmation from the police commissioner for the moment.”

Mamorato said that in April, the “New York pirates”, a jet ski club responsible for certain parties, met its staff, the NYPD, the New York State Liquor Authority, the conservation police environment and the City Island Civic Association to discuss the concerns of security and quality of life caused by water rages.

James Reichelt, the chief of the pirates, told the post that his group is participating in national events and that they wanted to find common ground with the inhabitants. Although Reichelt was not involved in the boat’s fire in June, he said he tried to help calm the activities on the water.

“I am one of the guys who have somehow created the whole scene of the party in New York and around City Island and who is blamed for many parties and [boat] Links, “explains Reichelt, 39, from New Rochelle.” So I try to help regulate certain things on water. »»

According to Reichelt, known by the nickname “Whiteboy”, the parties moved around Hart Island years ago when he said that his group had been hunted in more populated places.

“During the City Island meeting, I saw the elderly and other people with newborns, and I would not want my grandmother to hear the music and cannot sleep,” explains Reichelt. “I somehow understand it when you put it in a certain way.”

The application of the boats falls within the reach of the Coast Guard. The city’s Icelanders said the agency was not enough.

Sheridan said that the region needs “more aid to the Coast Guard’s police, instead of looking in the other direction”.

The Coast Guard did not respond to a request for comments.

The NYPD said it was doing its part to keep City Island’s sailors in safety and healthy.

“The NYPD patrols in the sailors in the city of New York limits and applies both municipal law and the State by making summons, arresting and putting the boats if necessary,” a spokesperson for the NYPD. “The year to date, the Harbor unit has issued 38 invitations to boaters, tending the bad responsible actors.”

For the moment, the boaters continue to drop the anchor near the shore of the city island, where a room has shared on Facebook that they have heard “Bass for the last 18 hours” during the weekend of the independence day. And at the end of June, dozens of jet ski presented themselves for an event called “NYC invasion” nicknamed “the biggest water event of the year”.

“I have a courtesy for people, and the NYPD does not want to get 200 calls, so I say to refuse music at least at 10 am,” said Reichelt. “Eighty percent people will listen to, but there will always be knuckleheads who think they could do what they want.”

Despite its expenses per year to register and park your boat through the city’s parks and leisure department, Malcolm “Tommy” Jones, 38, from New Rochelle, said the city should enforce the laws but allow a party safe.

“I just want them to be just,” said Jones. “They could designate areas where we could make our links, but they sometimes make very difficult for us to enjoy our boats.”

Zeeshan “Princezee” Ali, a humorist with nearly 2 million YouTube subscribers, was aboard boats and jet skis with the pirates, capturing the scene on the water with a drone.

“I don’t really see a problem with that, I feel like it’s just a community, like a yacht club,” said Ali, 34, from Astoria. “Everything is so positive there.”
