Baby food recalled because of patulin

IF Copack LLC doing business as Initiative Foods is recalling one lot of “Tippy Toes” brand apple, pear and banana fruit puree due to high levels of patulin.
Patulin is a natural mycotoxin produced by molds that can grow in various fruits, including apples. Long-term exposure resulting from ingestion of patulin can result in a variety of adverse health consequences, including potential immune suppression, nerve damage, headache, fever, and nausea.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date in connection with the recalled baby food.
The product was distributed nationwide to retail grocery stores in every U.S. state except Alaska. The product may have been distributed in the U.S. territories of Guam and Puerto Rico.
The UPC number on the product is 036800265783. The lot number is lot #07174. The expiration date can be found on the bottom of each plastic jar. The recalled product will be date stamped “BB 07/17/2026”. The package is also marked with the package code INIA0120.
The recalled product was sampled in the Food and Drug Administration’s Total Diet Study, which found higher levels of patulin than is common for these products. Initiative Foods worked with the FDA to identify the single lot to be recalled due to possible health concerns identified in this advisory.
This recall is being conducted based on FDA recommendations.
