On a day of rebranding at the Pentagon, this name change slipped under the radar

A Space Force spokesperson echoes these feelings in a statement on Friday.
The spokesperson said that the command mission “was to generate, present, maintain and improve the intelligence, cyber and space for combat forces, while associating through the American government, allies and trade agencies to project combat power in and space.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Trump’s decision to bring the name of the Ministry of War reportedly reported a “change of atmosphere” to “restore a warrior ethics” among the American military forces, repeating a familiar discussion point since he took the first job in Pentagon in January.
Although it is not clear how long the brand change of the Ministry of War will last, the command of the Space Force combat forces could remain.
Those officials of the first Trump administration were among the first in government to describe space as an “field of fight against war” similar to land, air, sea and cyberspace. However, the language increased only during the Biden administration, which also continued to increase the budget of the spatial force.
Frank Kendall, who was Air Force secretary under Biden, said in January that space would be a “decisive theater” in modern war.
And last year, several generals of the space force began to speak openly about the deployment of offensive weapons in space, which was an anathema just a few years ago, at least for the discussion in public forums. General Chance Saltzman, the best general of the space force, said last December that the work of the service was to provide the president with “offensive and defense options” for the combat in space.
“In 2014, we asked high leaders to talk about space and war in the same sentence,” said Saltzman. “They were in a way reprimanded by senior management. It is therefore a relatively new condition when we are talking about the fight against war in space.”
