Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory over TSG Hoffenheim maintained a six-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings, ending a bit of a funk for the Bavarians. With a sigh of relief, Bayern should be able to focus on the match against Rasenballsport Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.

It turns out that the meeting really risks being delayed. Sport1, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, explains what the problem is:

Wednesday’s DFB Pokal quarter-final between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig is in jeopardy due to a planned public transport strike on the same day in Munich. Buses will be affected, but especially the U-Bahn, which transports many fans to and from the Allianz Arena on match days.

CEO [Jan-Christian] Dreesen: “We will provide information tomorrow on how we will handle this. On Wednesday we find ourselves in a special situation due to the announced strike. We had a long internal meeting today with, among others, the MVG (Munich Transport Company), the police and other authorities necessary for such a game, and we will have to see how we organize it.”

Since Bayern is not required to participate in the Champions League qualifiers, the match could possibly be postponed until the following week.

The postponement should not be a problem for either club. Bayern do not have to worry about the playoffs, while Leipzig failed to reach Europe this season and have no such worries to face.

However, it would be a real shame for fans who have already booked tickets to watch the clash. Finding time to watch a match midweek is very difficult and the postponement of the match will mean many miss the opportunity to watch it. Yet if there are no solutions, Bayern may have no choice but to postpone.
