One dead in Irish Listeria outbreak


A person died in an epidemic of Listeria linked to the ready -to -the Republic of Ireland.
Nine confirmed cases of listeriosis have been identified. The Health Service (HSE) (HSE) (HSSC) Surveillance of Health Protection Center (HPSC) Survey on the death of an adult with confirmed listeriosis.
A national team to control epidemics investigates the “extended” epidemic, but no demographic details on patients have been released.
A reminder of prepared meals and side dishes produced by Ballymaugire Foods is underway due to a link with the epidemic. The first recall took place on June 30 and has been extended several times since.
Various brands are affected and the products have been sold in Tesco, Supervalu, Centra and Aldi stores. The meals recalled include spaghetti carbonara, beef lasagna, chicken curry, a chicken pie, a chalet pie and a potato puree. Hundreds of products have been recalled. A full list can be found here.
The recall also includes all the best dates and prize codes of several items sold in Northern Ireland.
Consumers are advised not to eat the products involved. They should also check their freezers for meals and eliminate them.
Suspended production
In a press release, Ballymaguire Foods said that it had initiated a reminder of all the products made in a single installation following the identification of Listeria as part of a quality control control.
“The incidents of this nature are extremely rare for us. We treat it with the greatest severity and work in close collaboration with all parties to manage the situation quickly and responsiblely. As a precautionary measure, and in accordance with our rigorous response protocols, we made the decision on Saturday to temporarily suspend all the production of affected ease, ”indicates the declaration of the company.
“Our internal team, supported by independent external experts, has carried out a complete assessment and implemented immediate corrective actions. These included a complete cleaning of the pharmaceutical quality of the installation. In consultation with the relevant statutory bodies and our customers, we will resume production once it is confirmed in complete safety.
Ireland recorded two cases of listeriosis in the first quarter of 2025 and 22 infections at all 2024.
The epidemory control team is chaired by the HSE National Health Protection Office Office and includes the HSE National Environmental Health Service, the HSE Regional Public Health Services, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, the National Salmonella, Shigella and Listeria Reference Laboratory and the National Reference Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.
Irish officials also examined an epidemic of hepatitis A.
Between December 2024 and April 2025, an epidemic of genotype IA of hepatitis A was studied. There were 18 cases, including 14 hospitalizations. The food vehicle has not been definitively identified, but the authorities believe that the transmission was of food origin due to the geographic and temporal distribution of the 14 primary cases, with a spread to four secondary cases.
