When I first started DIYing at home, I didn’t have many power tools and thought buying them would be a waste of money. I knew they would make the job easier, of course, but I didn’t think the convenience was worth paying for. After all, I had two hands. I could do everything the way my ancestors did: the hard way.
It took sanding down the old stairs in my house to change my mind forever. The stairs were old but sturdy, and I had to remove layers of paint and raw wood from the steps as part of the salvage project. And it was torture to do it by hand. Halfway there, I got up and went straight to the hardware store to buy an orbital sander. These sanders are ideal for stripping objects, as the random action of the sanding pad reduces scratching, resulting in a nice, smooth finish. I then finished the rest of the stairs pretty quickly and never looked back.
Honestly, the DeWalt DCW210 is one of the best orbital sanders I’ve ever used – and you can get one right now for 30% off (note that this is the “bare tool”, no battery or charger – if you need that, you’re better off buying the kit, which is also 34% off right now). It is cordless, which is ideal when working on a large area. It uses a standard 8-hole hook-and-loop attachment pad, so you can use the sanding pads best suited to the project at hand without being tied to a weird proprietary system. And it feels very comfortable in your hand, although it tends to feel a little heavy after a while of use.
What do you think of it so far?
Battery life is good, usually around an hour, although it may be shorter if you’re using heavy duty grit or working really hard with the sander. The battery also charges quickly, which often allows me to get hours of continuous use by charging a battery while I work and swapping it out as needed. If you’re still sanding by hand or your orbital sander has seen better days, grab this one for 30% off before Prime Day ends.
