How much would you spend on a handbag from a brand known best for their leggings? At least one popular athletic apparel brand is betting the answer is, “a lot.” Katie Holmes was just spotted modeling Alo Yoga’s brand new Voyage Duffel in Bordeaux, the first luxe item from the company, which retails for $3,600.
It’s the largest and most expensive from their new line of bags (the cheapest is $2,000), which are only available at the Alo Soho and Beverly Hills flagship stores. Each bag is handcrafted in Italy and comes with a crystal. (But if you’d like a vessel from Alo into which you can place your items that comes at a much lower price point, the brand’s famously enormous canvas tote bags are going for around $30 a piece on eBay.)

Out for a stroll in New York City, Holmes styled her Voyage with black drawstring pants and flats, a white shirt buttoned over a white tank and a loose trench. She layered a couple necklaces that bring to mind Jennifer Lawrence’s recent penchant for pendants. The actor and director kept her hair loose and wavy and accessorized with sunglasses for a look that is practically begging to be put on mood boards to illustrate what people mean by “autumnal tones.”
Just over a month ago, we saw her carrying a 2000s It bag, the Chloé Paddington, a nostalgic favorite, though it couldn’t work for the gym, being way too small. Still, we can’t help but compare the two. The Chloé purse, granted, is smaller, but has more hardware and comes from an established designer brand and costs under three grand. Alo’s calculation here is interesting. Both of these bags cost the equivalent of a month’s rent on a studio apartment in a major city.
This past year, Alo has taken steps to grow their offerings; that includes not just luxury bags, but clothing that’s made to be worn outside of the gym, too. (Remember the custom Alo Men’s suit they outfitted quarterback Joe Burrow in for the NFL Honors?)
