OpenAI takes on Chrome with ChatGPT Atlas browser for macOS – and Windows, iOS, and Android are ‘coming soon’

- ChatGPT Atlas is a new browser from OpenAI that integrates ChatGPT directly into the browsing experience
- It remembers your browsing context, allows you to ask questions, automate tasks and even clean your tabs
- Agent Mode allows Atlas to perform actions on your behalf in the browser, now available in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business users.
OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Atlas, a new AI-powered web browser that launches today for macOS users around the world. Windows, iOS, and Android versions are on the way, with a “coming soon” schedule.
ChatGPT Atlas integrates ChatGPT functionality directly into the browser itself. Instead of switching tabs to talk to a chatbot, the assistant is integrated into the browsing experience. When using Atlas, you will see both a web page and a ChatGPT transcript that keep the AI companion visible at all times (unless you turn it off). It can even correct your writing in an email via what OpenAI calls cursor chat.
AI can help summarize pages, fill out forms, make reservations, and perform other tasks automatically. The new browser represents OpenAI’s biggest advancement in software for everyday use and offers a memory function to personalize the experience and make it more useful on an individual level, as it can remember your preferences.
Atlas probably won’t seem foreign to most web browsers. But under the hood, it appears to be running OpenAI’s Agent Operator, an existing AI engine that can navigate pages, execute actions, and adapt in real time.
For everyday users, the appeal is obvious. Forget juggling extensions, copying URLs into a chatbot, or manually entering the same shipping address for the fiftieth time. If Atlas works as promised, navigation could become not only smarter, but also low maintenance.
