What you need to know about the 2026 Oscars

• “Sinners” seeks to make history by entering the night with 16 applications. This marks the most nominations ever for a single film, with the Ryan Coogler-led vampire spectacle earning nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and a nomination for the newly minted Best Cast award.
• “One Battle After Another” earned the second-most nominations, with 13, and faces “Sinners” in big categories like best picture, best actor, best supporting actress and best director.
• Best Cast is the first new category in a quarter-century, after the Academy added Best Animated Feature to the ceremony in 2001.
• Former late-night television staple Conan O’Brien returns to host the show for the second year in a row. Matt Berry, of “The IT Crowd” and “What We Do in the Shadows” fame, will handle the announcement.
• The Oscars take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and are broadcast live on ABC and streaming on Hulu.
