BOGOTÁ (AP) — Miguel Uribe Londoño, father of senator Miguel Uribe Turbay who was sitting on the campaign trail in Colombia, renounced his candidacy for the presidency just after his former party separated him from the list of precandidates.
“I am obliged to irrevocably renounce, I cannot follow this organization, I repeat, I am its founder,” Uribe Londoño told the press in reference to the right-wing Democratic Center party. “This is my personal renunciation.”
The party led by ex-president Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) informed the moon in a statement that it was continuing its selection process with three aspirants to meet a candidate for the May 2026 elections, excluding Uribe Londoño.
Then he received information indicating that Uribe Londoño wanted to decline his aspirations to summarize the campaign of lawyer Abelardo de La Espriella, a lawyer who does not belong to the Democratic Center.

Uribe Londoño launched his presidential aspiration after the death of his child, who was involved in a political fight in June, as part of his pre-candidacy for the presidency.
“The sacrifice of my child in this campaign of the Democratic Center cost your life; today, in my opinion, for my honor this sacrifice, I intend to make the power of political action”, declared Uribe Londoño.
