Brewing hot and cold espresso is a piece of cake with the cute little De’Longhi Dedica Duo – and it costs less than you might expect

The style of’longhi Dedica is a superb small espresso machine, and has long occupied a place in our overview of the best coffee makers thanks to its compact construction, a price suitable for wallets and always excellent results. This is an excellent entry -level option, so when I had the chance to test his new brother, the Dedica Duo de’longhi Dedica, just as small, I jumped at the opportunity. I will soon bring you a complete criticism, but my first impression is that the new version is even better.
The main difference between the Dedica style and the duo is that (like many of the best espresso machines that I tested this year), it can extract your coffee using hot or cold water, so you can use it to prepare icy drinks when you want to cool off.
Unlike some machines that I have used recently, it uses an appropriate cold extraction, which takes a while, but gives a much better flavor than simply pouring a hot espresso photo on the ice and calling it a day. Like the Jura J10, much more expensive, the new de’longhi leaves your pre-infusely ground coffee for a prolonged period, then pulsed cold water through it. The result? Delicious and soft, even when I used a medium roast. If it was not already in the afternoon, I would do another one right now.
Hot extraction is also excellent. The Casabrews 5418 PRO that I examined the other week was so incoherent that he made me ask me if I knew how to make espresso, but the Dedica duo restored my faith in my own capacities. It takes a little time to warm up, but once it does it and the espresso pimples on the top are illuminated, you can be convinced that you are going to have a very good blow. I use a thin enough version for my coffee and the results have not weakened.
There is no three solenoid, so you can expect a little flipper after the end of the pump, but it is certainly not the end of the world.
Despite its modest price of $ 299.95 / £ 279.99 (the details of Australia have not yet been announced), all duo’s accessories feel reassuring. The handle of Portafilter has a beautiful heft, just like sabotage (no fragile plastic pieces here), and De’Longhi did not cut the corners by expecting what you provide your own pitcher of milk (I rebel you, Casabrews).
There is even a small scoop to measure your coffee (a judicious addition for an entry -level machine whose users may not have an appropriate scale) and a generous Descaler package.
The duo is also available in a cute range of colors. I chose white to avoid competing with my rather shiny green kitchen, but you can also choose stainless steel, soft sage green or a pretty shade of pink. All are finished with chrome accents, including a well -tactile knob button to control the steam wand.
I will spend a few more weeks with the Dedica duo before writing my complete analysis, but so far, it seems that we can have a new competitor for the title of “Best Small Essence Machine”. I’m going to drink on that.
