There was bound to be discipline on the part of the NBA for the massive brawl that ensued Monday night between the Detroit Pistons and the Charlotte Hornets, and one player will be out for an extended period of time.

Pistons center Isaiah Stewart, who sprinted off the bench to fight Hornets forward Miles Bridges, was suspended seven games for his role in the brawl.

Bridges and Hornets teammate Moussa Diabaté were each suspended for four games, while Pistons center Jalen Duren was suspended two games for initiating the altercation and fighting.

The NBA imposed a longer suspension on Stewart for “leaving the bench, aggressively participating in an on-court altercation and fighting.”

“The length of Stewart’s suspension is based in part on his repeated history of unsportsmanlike conduct,” the league’s statement added.

HORNETS-PISTONS GAME GETS CHAOTIC WITH Massive Brawl Leading to 4 Ejections

The four players mentioned were ejected Monday night at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte after the wild brawl in the third quarter.

The incident began when Duren was backing up Diabaté in the paint, and the latter fouled the former with about seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. But the two immediately clashed, with Diabaté pressing his head against Duren, which started it all.

Duren pushed Diabaté in the face, and despite players on both sides trying to break things up, the usually mild-mannered Diabaté continued to look for Duren.

Pistons veteran Tobias Harris was holding Diabaté back, when Diabaté threw a punch at Duren, escalating the situation. As Duren walked away, Bridges got involved, throwing a left punch of his own at Duren. The Pistons forward fired back with a punch of his own.

Then, with many players on the court at this point, Stewart rushed off the Pistons bench to confront Bridges, throwing a punch.

Tempers finally calmed down, but the ejections did not stop. In the fourth quarter, Hornets coach Charles Lee was ejected from the game and had to be restrained after yelling at the officials following a non-call when his player, Grant Williams, collided with the Pistons’ Paul Reed.
