More weight on schedule strength

The selection committee for the play football playoffs announced on Wednesday that it will focus more on the strength of the calendar this year during the determination of the teams that are the field of 12 teams.
The Committee said in a press release that the calendar strength was adjusted to apply greater weight to matches against strong opponents. An additional metric, Record Strength, was added to go beyond the strength of the calendar of a team to assess how a team took place against this calendar.
“This metric rewards teams beating high -quality opponents while minimizing the penalty for losing such a team,” said the committee. “Conversely, these changes will provide a minimum reward for defeating a lower quality opponent while imposing a greater penalty for having lost such a team.”
The adjustment of the evaluation process comes after some of the Southeast Conference complained of the inclusion of last season of 11-2 SMU of the Atlantic Coast conference on 9-3 Alabama, 9-3 South Caroline and 9-3 Mississippi.
SMU’s losses were not classified byu and ranked Clemson in the ACC championship match. Alabama suffered bad losses against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma, both at the time, but also won the No. 2 of Georgia, LSU n ° 14 and Missouri n ° 21.
Presented by concerns about how teams who do not play in the conference championship matches are tried, the committee examined the movement of inactive teams in the final ranking. The selection committee reaffirmed that the movement in the last week should be based on evidence and did not recommend creating an official policy prohibiting such a movement.
The Committee has also updated its policy on the challenge of members of the selection committee.
A member will be fully recovered from the assessment of a team if he receives direct compensation from the school in question or has an immediate family member who is a football player, a football staff or a main administrator at school. A fully recused member is not authorized to participate in deliberations or votes concerning this school.
A member will be partially challenged if he has a secondary relationship with the school in question, such as an immediate family member employed by the institution but outside the football program or the senior administration. A partially recused member can remain present and participate in discussions related to the team in question, but is not authorized to participate in votes involving the team.
The selection committee will publish the first of its five weekly rankings Top 25 on November 4. The final classification and the playoffs will be announced on December 7.
