My Laptop Couldn’t Upgrade to Windows 11, So I Switched to Linux

My laptop could not go to Windows 11, so I decided to go to Linux. It was the best decision I have ever made for my computers, and I am addicted to this operating system. Even if you can go to Windows 11, you can see that Linux Mint is better.
Buying new expensive equipment just to meet Microsoft’s requirements is useless and useless. My reliable laptop was suddenly considered exceeded, not because he could not work well, but because he did not meet these apparently arbitrary new standards. The passage to Linux was not only something that I did because I had to do it; It has become a way to free yourself and really have my laptop in a way that I had forgotten was possible.
Windows 11 left me and many others behind
Windows 11 has created an instant problem for millions of users because of its strict material rules. Many older computers do not have key features such as the confidence platform module (TPM) 2.0, secure starter or a more recent processor (Intel 8th Generation or AMD Zen + or later). About 240 million computers worldwide cannot execute Windows 11, often because they do not have TPM 2.0, a supported CPU, at least 4 GB of RAM, an UEFI firmware or a compatible graphics card.
This puts users in a difficult situation. Their current PCs, which could only have a few years, always work perfectly for daily tasks. For example, a computer with a 7th generation Intel i7 processor, a lot of RAM and a good graphics card – strong enough for modern games – it is always prevented from operating Windows 11.
Since Windows 10 will stop receiving updates in October 2025, this leaves people like me in the choice of spending a lot of money on a new PC just to execute Windows 11, or looking for another option. Linux stands out as a strong alternative, giving older machines, than Microsoft empty, a second life.

4 reasons why Linux Mint is the best replacement for Windows 11
I hope that the final push that makes you go to open source.
Linux is a group of free and open-source operating systems built on the Linux nucleus. It is known to be flexible, light and need very little to work, which makes it an excellent adjustment for the equipment that Windows 11 has left.
After installing Linux, my laptop runs and starts faster than before. Linux gives you complete control over your systems, including when updates occur, so you are not obliged to restart or wait when you have never accepted an update.
This level of control, as well as without monitoring, without data collection, and no boring advertising, makes Linux an excellent choice for anyone who values confidentiality and really wants to have their computer. Passing to Linux, you don’t have to spend a penny and you earn so much more.
Mint is ideal for beginners, but test it first
Linux Mint is an excellent starting point for beginners. His cinnamon office looks like older versions of Windows, such as XP or 7, which makes it easier to learn. Linux Mint is also delivered with important programs already implemented, notably LibreOffice, Firefox and the support of Steam.
It is stable, simple to use and has a strong community support, making it a reliable choice for daily tasks, even on computers with limited resources.
Even if mint is easy to use, it’s always a good idea to try Linux before installing it completely. This helps to check if your equipment is working properly and allows you to familiarize yourself with the interface.
A sure way to test Linux is to run it on a virtual machine like VirtualBox, which allows you to use Linux as another program inside Windows. Although virtual machines are ideal for trying things, they do not show you exactly how Linux will work on your equipment, especially if your computer has less than 4 GB of RAM, due to the use of additional power supply machines.
I did this in this way, and this is probably the simplest option, but another common way to test Linux is to start it from a USB. This allows you to try Linux Mint without installing it, which is useful to check if things like Wi-Fi and graphics work.

Why Linux Mint is my main distribution
My installation is in perfect condition; Here is why.
The execution of Linux from a USB is generally slower than installing it on an SSD. After the tests, you can decide to configure a double boot system or completely install Linux.
It is important to remember that Linux is a large family with hundreds of different versions (called distributions or distributions), each with its own looks and features. You can choose another distribution, but I chose mint because it is an excellent starting point, and I would recommend it.
How to install Linux without fear
Going from Windows to Linux may seem overwhelming, as you could worry about damaging your computer or fighting to learn something new. However, the installation of Linux has become much easier over time, with simple steps to reduce risks and help you feel more comfortable.
The first thing you want to do is save all important files. This is the most important step before installing Linux. Whether you plan to completely delete the windows or keep both systems, a backup ensures your data. Save your files on an external hard drive, USB stick or cloud storage.
We have an excellent guide on how to do that I followed, but I only did a few things. Get a USB with at least 4 GB of free space, download Rufus to format this USB later and download Linux Mint. I chose the Cinnamon edition. I had to use Utorrent to get my ISO file, and you may also have to do it.

I always install these Gnome extensions on my Linux computers
My default set of Nantis must.
Once you have this ISO, open Rufus, select your flash drive, then select the ISO. When it is done, you are almost all the way. My biggest problem during this process was to find out how to get the ISO file, but if not, it was quite simple.
Then restart your computer and open the start menu. I had to press F10, F12, Delete, F8, F7, ESC and TAB several times before his arrival. You can search for how your PC can happen here, or just press all the buttons as I did.
In the start -up menu, just press “Start Linux Mint” and you can test it before installing it on your PC. This is a big decision, but if you like what you see, do not hesitate to make your fault and keep the USB in case you get more PC.
I don’t miss Windows at all
Going from Windows to Linux may seem frightening at first, and I can attest that I was terrified. However, it is like breaking the chains of use of the computer. The best way to explain it is that the computer does what I tell him, only when I say it to do it.
It is easy to forget the amount of energy removed from users when computers have started to become a normal product to have. My old laptop, which slows down with Windows 10, is now working much faster on Linux Mint. It’s so good that I’m not even going to move my main pc to Windows 11; I am permanently in Team Linux now.
I had a small problem with the integrated Wi-Fi of my laptop that does not work immediately, but it is completely normal because your drivers are uninstalled during the switch. Linux has a button that will reinstall everything when it starts, so don’t worry and use an Ethernet cord or an external Wi-Fi adapter while you download your drivers again.
The game was a reason why I stayed with Windows, but now I find that it is surprisingly well on Linux, mainly because of Steam Proton. Valve has shown a strong care of Linux with Steamos and The Steam Deck, which has made games work much better on Linux. Many games work as well or even better on Linux, especially on older computers where Windows 11 has trouble. This means that I did not have at all to abandon the game, which, in my opinion, would be the case.
But once I corrected this and got used to Linux, I noticed a huge difference right away. It was as if all useless things had disappeared. The system works lighter, faster and smoother, without slowdowns and background processes that have made the windows frustrating. There are also no boring announcements, constant follow -up or unwanted features like Microsoft remembers, so my computer feels private and clean.

These Linux distributions are the most similar to Windows 10
These distributions facilitate the passage to Team Penguin.
The passage to Linux is something so simple to do, but you do not realize how simple it is until you did it once. From there, you realize that it is an entire community with different distros, but it is mainly a question of taking care of your device. There is a real feeling of freedom once you pass.
While Windows 10 approaches its final updates, consider it a chance to make a real upgrade that gives you total control. You don’t have to buy a computer just because Microsoft tells you; Instead, let the business lose another customer and head to Linux Mint.
