In this 30-second exhibition photograph, a meteor rushes into the sky during the annual showers of Perseid and Alpha Capricornids meteor, Sunday August 3, 2025, in Spruce Knob, in Virginia-Western.

The Perseid shower Meteor, which culminates in mid-August, is considered the best of the year. With fast and shiny meteors, the perseids frequently leave long “awakenings” of light and color behind them while they cross the atmosphere of the earth. Perseids are one of the most abundant showers with around 50 to 100 meteors seen per hour.

This year, visibility will be hampered by a moon of 84% in the peak night. Some brilliant meteors can still be seen at the time before dawn, but vision conditions are not ideal.
