PFL CEO John Martin discusses what’s next for Francis Ngannou

PFL CEO John Martin was non-committal when asked about the future of Francis Ngannou.
In December, Martin seemed hopeful that a truly special fight was going to happen for Ngannou (18-3), who hasn’t competed in the smart cage since knocking out Renan Ferreira to win the PFL Super Fights heavyweight championship in October 2024.

But when Ngannou was cut from the PFL rankings, many wondered what his future would look like with the company now that he has one fight left on his contract. Martin was asked about the possibility of Ngannou facing PFL heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov.
“With Francis, I will have something to announce when we have something,” Martin told MMA Junkie Radio. “It’s got to be a meaningful fight for Francis, it’s got to be a meaningful fight for us. I was cageside when (Vadim) Nemkov beat Renan (Ferreira), and it was a pretty dominant performance. He’s a tremendous, legitimate heavyweight champion, and we’ll see who his next opponent is.”
Since signing with the PFL in 2023, Ngannou has only fought once in MMA. He competed in boxing matches twice, nearly upsetting Tyson Fury and then getting knocked out by Anthony Joshua.
