Surprising green ice on Lake Lipno: Cyanobacteria bloom in mid-winter

An unusual natural phenomenon appeared at the end of 2025 on Lake Lipno, South Bohemia, Czech Republic. Large amounts of cyanobacteria accumulated in the water turned the ice green. The phenomenon was carefully documented by hydrobiologists from the Biology Center of the Czech Academy of Sciences, who also collected and analyzed water samples.
