Plastic bottles transformed into Parkinson's drug using bacteria

A drug to treat Parkinson’s disease can be made from waste plastic bottles using a pioneering method, a study suggests. The approach harnesses the power of bacteria to transform post-consumer plastic into L-DOPA, a first-line drug for the neurological disorder. This is the first time a natural biological process has been developed to transform plastic waste into a therapeutic treatment for a neurological disease, researchers say.
