Plex App vs Chrome—The Surprising Truth About Streaming Quality
Have you ever broadcast a plex film and thought: “It shouldn’t be transcoded for the moment”, only to see it transcode? Well, I just lived that – and the fix was easier than what I expected.
I assumed that Chrome would manage the best video reading
Media vapor is something that the modern web excels. I broadcast the media in my navigator hours sometimes a day, so it must be the best choice for streaming, right? Well, not always.
I recently started watching through my catalog of movies on my Plex server during my lunch break. I have lunch in my office, so I’m already on my computer. Right now, I have no television in my office, just my computer.
So when I started watching movies at lunch, I used Chrome because I thought Chrome would be the best choice for work. I was very wrong.
I was actually surprised to note that a large part of my library will not direct the game of my Plex server in Chrome. Codecs just don’t align themselves. My server had to transcode All I looked, and there were a lot of stamps, stuttering and even reading errors directly.
Although I can transcode everything on my server to a more compatible format, I have never encountered this problem before looking at my plex server. I generally use my Apple TV to watch Plex, which uses a native reader and direct games.
Chrome and Safari both support the HEVC and H.265 codecs. However, for any reason, the two browsers can sometimes have problems with these codecs in Plex.
When my office did not run a game, no matter what I did, I started looking for what could be the problem for this. It turns out that Chrome was the problem from the start.
Plex offers official applications for Windows and MacOS for a reason
I will be honest, I did not expect Plex to have a native Windows or MacOS application. In my trip to understand why my server constantly transcoded, however, I tripped them and I discovered that many people have said that native applications have solved my problem.
It is logical that Plex has official applications for office computers, just as they make consoles, phones and media players streaming. A dedicated office application means that Plex can cook in favor of the codecs they want, and the system can simply read it in this way.
A dedicated application allows Plex to control the experience of a back front, while a web browser forces them to rely on third parties to keep things up to date.
So I downloaded the plex app on my Windows desk, and later on my MacBook Pro, and magic transcoding.
The use of the plex application on my desktop and my laptop continued to transcode a minimum
I was surprised to see how native plex applications worked to continue to transcode at least on my server. All of a sudden, my media played with a direct game instead of having to change containers or resolutions.
It was a simple solution to find, and I couldn’t believe it. I originally thought that the problem would have been with my plex server configuration, or perhaps a defective GPU configuration. I’m glad it’s just the application I used.
Of course, there are still cases where my server must transcode. Sometimes I want a different resolution of the native media resolution. Sometimes I will activate the subtitles, which must be transcoded live in the media. Or, I am simply on a network connection bad enough to remove the quality to make it retain gently.
Anyway, at this stage, my server rarely transcode during streaming from my office, and all I had to do was to move from the use of chrome to the use of the native application.
Go to the plex in your home home? It is honestly one of the best parts of the self-hosting content. I prefer to use plexes on physical media these days. It is more reliable, easier to access, and I don’t have to worry about the fact that the discs are damaged.
The configuration of a Plex server is also easier than you think. You can run Plex about just any equipment, and tear your collection of physical plexes is quite simple. So, if you haven’t tried plex yet, you should turn it and give it a gunshot.
