4 U.S. Army soldiers charged in connection with on-base sex assault of college student who’s now an officer

The legal proceedings of four army soldiers are charged with the sexual assault of a student in an army barracks began this month, said a spokesperson for the military branch.

The four were charged in April as part of an incident of October 27 in Barracks with Joint Base Lewis-McChord, south-west of Tacoma, Washington.

The victim, who was not identified, was described by Michelle McCaskill, spokesperson for the army office of special trial advisor, as a student who has since been ordered as an officer.

McCaskill told the Subsidal of NBC King of Seattle that the four men are confronted with the following accusations, many accusations appearing with several charges, or specifications in the army language:

• CPL. Pedro Angel Ruiz, 29, faces a martial court. He is accused of attempted sexual assault, director of indecent registration, director of the distribution of indecent registration, conspiracy in order to commit sexual assault and obstruction to justice. Online judicial archives have not listed advocacy and its trial is scheduled for November.
• PVT. 2nd class Deron J. Gordon, 20, faces a martial court. He is accused of sexual assault, abusive sexual contacts, abusive sexual contact director, director of sexual assault, director of the sexual assault attempt, director to an indecent registration, director of the distribution of indecent registration, conspiracy to commit sexual assault and obstruction of justice. He pleaded guilty and a hearing was scheduled for September 3.
• SPC. Jadon Bosarge, 24, is accused of sexual assault, director of sexual assault, director of the attempt at sexual assault, indecent registration, director of indecent registration, director of distribution of indecent registration, conspiracy to commit sexual assault and obstruction of justice.
• PFC. Kallon Curiel, 24, is accused of sexual assault, abusive sexual contacts, abusive sexual contact director, abusive sexual contact, director of sexual assault, director of the attempt at sexual assault, indecent registration, principal to indecent registration, director of justice.

In addition, McCaskill said Curiel is accused of sexual assault of a child and sexual assault without consent in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a child in Arizona.

The army generally appoints a defense lawyer in such cases. Representatives of his assistance program for the Defense Council did not immediately respond to a request for comments on behalf of the defendants. Ruiz’s registered lawyer in his court file could not be joined to comment on Tuesday evening.

Sexual assaults and conspiracy to commit sexual assault is each calibrated at 30 -year -old sentences for each specification, said McCaskill. Each defendant risks the potential of decades in prison if he is successfully prosecuted.

It is not known exactly what the office of the army of special advisor of trial, the prosecution organization, one day alleged in October in the barracks, but McCaskill said: “Sexual assaults took place at the same time and at all with all the accused soldiers present.”

Affairs, including trials for each soldier, should continue to move forward next month and at least until November in court at the joint Lewis-McChord base.
