Prep talk: South East soccer team is ignited by Nathan Castrejon

How well is senior Nathan Castrejon scoring goals for the Southeast soccer team?
Coach Felipe Bernal said: “His strength and speed allow him to get away with things like Real Madrid’s Mbappé. That’s how I see him at this level.”
Castrejon, 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, entered this week with 38 of Southeast’s 90 goals. Southeast has its best chance at a City Section title since winning in a big upset in 2022. This season wouldn’t be a surprise, as the Jaquars are 16-1-3.
Bernal has so many players with the first name Nathan that he has to call them by their last name. Besides Castrejon, there is Nathan Medina, who has eight goals, and Nathan Vargas, a backup goalkeeper who filled in well while the starter was ill.
“We are a complete team this year,” Bernal said.
One of the most interesting players is David Velasco, 5-4. “The kid does the work,” Bernal said. “He’s amazing.”
Velasco has 11 assists.
Southeast is 6-0-1 in the competitive Eastern League that features longtime powerhouse Bell.
