Prosecutor Appoints Himself To Fani Willis’ Election Case After Failing To Find A Single Lawyer Willing To Revive It

After failing to find an attorney willing to take on Fani Willis’ troubled 2020 election case in Fulton County, the prosecutor charged with searching for his replacement appointed himself.
The Council of State Attorneys of Georgia (PACGA) faced a Nov. 14 deadline to select a new lawyer or have the case dismissed.
“The filing of this nomination reflects my inability to find another conflict attorney to take responsibility for this matter,” wrote PACGA Executive Director Peter Skanadlakis. “Several attorneys were contacted and, although all were respectful and professional, each declined the appointment. Out of respect for their privacy and professional discretion, I will not identify these attorneys or disclose the reasons for their refusal.” (RELATED: Fani Willis Permanently Fired From Trump Case)

The Georgia Supreme Court upheld a ruling disqualifying Willis from the case in September.
Defense attorneys initially moved to disqualify Willis in January 2024 for hiring her romantic partner, Nathan Wade, to work on the case. They argued she took unfair advantage of awarding Wade a lucrative contract when he took her on cruises and vacations.
Willis falsely claimed she paid all special prosecutors working on the case the same hourly rate, although contracts first reported by the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed she paid Wade a higher rate than the state’s top racketeering expert.

Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead defense attorney in the Georgia case, said “these politically charged prosecutions must end.”
“We remain confident that a fair and impartial review will lead to the dismissal of the charges against President Trump,” he said.
Skanadlakis wrote that “the public has a legitimate interest in the outcome of this case.” It said it would “conduct a thorough review and make an informed decision on the best way to proceed.”
“The decision to take responsibility for this matter was made only after careful and deliberate consideration,” he wrote. “While it would have been simple to let Judge McAfee’s deadline expire or to inform the Court that no conflict attorney could be appointed – thereby allowing the case to be dismissed for lack of prosecution – I did not believe that was the correct course of action.”
