Qatar says it will need to rebuild lost trust with Iran

Qatar says its relations with Iran have been severely damaged after weeks of attacks in the Gulf. “Following this hostile act, it is necessary to rebuild lost trust,” said Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. “The Iranian people and us are linked by geography, proximity and history.”
He again called on Iran to cease the attacks immediately so that the region is not drawn into a “dangerous vortex.” Iran’s actions are jeopardizing security “for all countries in the region,” Al Thani said.
Qatar has maintained diplomatic relations with Iran for decades, expanding its diplomatic influence by expanding contacts with Tehran and mediating in the conflict with the US.
Qatar and Iran also share access to the world’s largest gas field in the Gulf and have cooperated for economic reasons.
