FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Speaks to the Kimmel Cancelation and the Requirements of Holding an FCC License – RedState

The ignorant and uninformed voices on the left cry, claiming to cancel culture and censorship. Brendan Carr, the president of the Federal Communications Commission appeared on “Hannity” of Fox News to trace the light line between the way in which an organization which holds an FCC license must operate as opposed to a cable or a streaming organization like Fox News or CNN.

Hannity asked Carr to denounce the obligations of Nexstar Media Group, the ABC affiliate who announced for the first time that they abandoned Kimmel from their range, and how Kimmel crossed the line by putting their licenses in Jeopardy.

Carr said:

The diffusers are different from any other form of communication, including here. We are on the cable right now. Fox News does not have an FCC license, does not do it CNN. But ABC, CBS, NBC, these distribution stations do it. And with this license, a single obligation to operate in the public interest. And over the years, the FCC has moved away from the application of this public interest obligation. I don’t think we are better as a country for that. But watch, President Trump ran directly in these inherited points of broadcasting and he exposed them to these market forces, and many of these affiliation groups said: “We are tired of carrying this kind of thing.” End of evening shows, something went wrong there. They went from the conduct of Laugh Lines to the lines of applause, to be court jokes who would make fun of everyone in power to be clerics of the court by applying a very narrow political ideology.

Carr went further, stressing that Nexstar’s choice was to continue to allow Kimmel to be a passive or keep their licenses. They chose their ability to have licenses on inflated, too expensive and funny talent.

And Nexstar, as you noted, got up and said, look, we have the license and we no longer want to execute this; We do not think it serves the interest of our community. Sinclair did the same thing. So, there is more work to do, but I am very happy to see that American broadcasters are resisting the interests of their communities, so we have not only this progressive foie gras that comes out of New York and Hollywood.

Hannity and Carr discussed the role of President Trump in the holding of responsible broadcasters and realign the FCC to search for the public good. Carr said,

President Trump ran against huge ratings. The inherited media threw everything from him, almost all the hoax imaginable. RIGHT? Biden is clear as an accessory. Burning the history of Laptops Hunter Biden, the hoax for the collusion of Russia. And most politicians would have accompanied this story or not at all fought. But President Trump struck, and when he did, he defended the American people who simply no longer trust these points of sale. At the FCC, we will enforce the obligation of public interest. If there are diffusers who don’t like that, they can transform their license into FCC. But this is our work, once again, we are progressing now.

Hannity asked the question of whether the broadcasters focused on adhesion to the political agenda of a part as a form of donation in kind. Car has accepted, saying:

I think there is evidence of this. Look, running a narrow partisan circus, whatever the public interest, that’s not it. We are working to invigorate this. This action today by Nexstar and Sinclair, frankly, it is unprecedented. I cannot imagine another time when we have local broadcasters say what we would call a national programmer like Disney, that your content no longer meets the needs and values ​​of our community. It is therefore an important turning point.

And frankly, speaking of this, obviously, Charlie Kirk decided to change the country, to change the culture and the result of his work continues to produce results, and that is a good thing.

Hannity referred to the former animator of “Tonight Show” Jay Leno, and how he raised the question on the cancellation of “The Late Show from CBS with Stephen Colbert” on the reasons why any actor is worth his salt would like to alienate half of his audience by playing partisan politics rather than just striving to be funny. Carr has spoken to the results: equal ratings in advertising dollars, and the ratings of these programs have not been there for years. He said,

Yes, I mean, you cannot avoid notes. In the end, the market will be undefeated. And many of these societies, Disney and Comcast, they protected and frankly subsidized this content. Once again, once President Trump broke this facade, he gave a permission structure to local broadcasters to finally get up. When you look at the notes, the public had verified himself years ago and, like Colbert’s show, “Live!” From Kimmel. Was on support for life.
