Rabies pose ‘imminent public health threat’ in Nassau County

Nassau County officials warn that rage has become a serious concern in the suburbs east of New York.

“The Nassau County Ministry of Health has declared an imminent public health threat due to an increase in cases of rabies among wild and wild animals,” officials said in a statement on Monday.

Nassau County health officials reported in September that a raccoon and two stray cats in regions near John F. Kennedy International Airport were tested positive for rabies. The county was considered to be free from ranting of rabies since 2007. No recent case of rage in humans have been reported.

The first symptoms of infection against rabies may include weakness, discomfort, fever or headache. A serious illness appears within two weeks of the initial contact. Symptoms may include anxiety, agitation, hallucinations, abundance of saliva and aggressive behavior.
