8 of the Best Slasher Films to Stream Right Now

“Horror Movie” is such a wide term. You have your supernatural films involving horrible ghosts and demons, dead-dead zombies, psychological tasks and “high” cinematographic horror, like that of Jordan Peele or Ari Aster, designed for more refined horror fans. As for me, I prefer Slasher films – those where a psycho -tirer stands out on a group of helpless victims, picking them one at a time.

If you are a Slasher fan, the problem is to find good to broadcast. Some of the best (like the Friday 13 And Nightmare on Elm Street Series) are not always available for streaming, and platforms like Netflix are strewn with “slashers” so bad that Ghostface would not clean his knife with them.

Do not worry, however: I gathered the final list of the best Slasher films that you can broadcast now!

Halloween

Year of exit

1978

Execution time

1 hour, 31 minutes

Horror fans love to argue on which film began the trend of the slasher; For me, it all starts with the emblematic film of John Carpenter from 1978 Halloween. After all, this film introduced several staples of the genre, including a masked killer tracking young people. Among these young people, Jamie Lee Curtis made her cinematographic debut. It was the film that undoubtedly defined his career and crowned it as the first “queen of the cries” of modern cinema, and it would take up this role several times in several films in this sprawling franchise.

While Curtis and the rest of his young distribution comrades add a humanity well necessary for the film, this film is entirely on Michael Myers. His scary mask is burned in the minds of all those who saw this film, and its ability to track down and make your way through the suburbs remains unprecedented. Special congratulations also go to Donald as a doctor from Myers, a man who keeps (rightly so) that his patient is no longer a man and has become the incarnation of pure and relentless evil.

Shout

Year of exit

1996

Execution time

1 hour, 51 minutes

In the 90s, the Slasher seemed widely played. Films featuring Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees had provided diminished yields, and the tropes of the genre seemed just as dead as any victim of the killer on the screen. But in 1996, Wes Craven Shout Turned the genre on his head, with a masked killer making his way through a group of teenagers who are almost painfully warned by pop culture.

As such, the film had a powerful double attraction both to a younger audience (those who are closer to the victims on the screen) and to the older public (those who memorized the same horror tropes this film both lampons and subverts). Charismatic actors like Neve Campbell, Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard help to give life to the hilarious dialogue of the film. Whether you love slashers for cool killers, fun victims or memorable victims, Shout has a little of everything.

He generated a mainly solid franchise of suites, but the original is always the best bloody.

Texas chainsaw massacre

Year of exit

1974

Execution time

1 hour, 23 minutes

To date, Texas chainsaw massacre Stands out as one of the most insane horror films ever made. The intimidating leather killer instantly became a legend of pop culture thanks to his exaggerated design: who would not be afraid of a guy who carries the chainsaw that carries the skin of others? Although it is not as openly frightening, the rest of the frightening cannibal family of Leatherface helped to frighten the general public by stressing the sinister message of the film that the unspeakable horror could hide in an unpretentious house across the country.

Like a kind of proto-splasher, Texas chainsaw massacre Separates by keeping the public on his guard. Like the characters in the film, we never know what will happen next. Each moment feels fresh and unpredictable, and the sudden arrival of Leathface is still as terrifying now as in 1974. Even if the franchise began to get out of the rails with its subsequent suites, the original Massacre of chainsaw in Texas is always the perfect film to show anyone who needs a good fear.

Sleeping camp

Year of exit

1983

Execution time

1 hour, 23 minutes

Sleeping camp is another film that zigs each time you expect it to zag. Its camp frame and its multitude of young victims give the impression that it will be a clone of Friday 13. Unlike most films featuring Jason Voorhees, this film spends a lot of time on young participants in the holder sleeping camp. In addition (and I saw this as a guy with a Jason tattoo), the killed in this film are much more creative than most of those who were distributed on Friday 13 or other horror films for children from the 80s.

And while I won’t spoil it, Sleeping camp Has a deliciously unpredictable ending which has even more impact now than it was decades ago. The young cast, led by the star of the veteran horror Felissa Rose, is simply great: they help to sell the naivety and the innocence of young people and to sympathize the public with their vulnerability. And I mean vulnerable: unlike many later horror films, Sleeping camp Do not hesitate to visit a very horrible destinies on his children’s characters!

Terrifier 2

Year of exit

2022

Execution time

2 hours, 18 minutes

Whether you love or hate the character, the art of clown has become the permanent horror icon of our modern age. Under surprising makeup, David Howard Thornton uses body language to instill art with a frightening frightening quality, like a killer cartoon comes to life. Art is in rare form in Terrifier 2A film focusing on a teenage girl whose family landed in the crosshairs clownesques of the monster. If you are not familiar with the franchise, however, beware: the brand brand of Creepy The series is horribly killed over it, so this Slasher sequel is not for the Scèmes.

One of the persistent criticisms of the original Creepy The film is that he had barely an intrigue: we essentially watched the tracked art of poor women, and the scenario was hardly more than an excuse for bloody killings (and certainly very, very frightening). Terrifier 2 deals with this criticism by giving our protagonist an additional agency and giving our antagonist a troubled mythology. The story does not always make sense, but it has little importance for the public looking for a good scary moment.

3

American psycho

Year of exit

2000

Execution time

1 hour, 42 minutes

Most emblematic Slasher films focus on their monsters in obvious parias, which is why the genre is filled with masked or disfigured monsters tracking down the unfortunate victims of thin. American psycho (Adapted from the novel by Brett Easton Ellis of the same name) Sléla of this trope by focusing on Patrick Bateman, a rich investment banker from New York. It is incredibly beautiful and obscurely rich, so there is no reason why it becomes a killer. This is a large part of what makes this film so scary, of course: the idea that the last person you would suspect to hide the bodies inside a cupboard full of creators.

This adaptation of a film adds an essential black comedy (it is honestly one of the best horror comedies ever made), which is one of the reasons why many quotes from Bateman (the concern of someone else’s business cards to rush to Huey Lewis) have become good-like memes. As Bateman, Christian Bale flies almost all scene, which is much more impressive in a film with Hollywood heavy goods vehicles like Willem Dafoe. His charisma helps the film to launch a kind of spell on the public, inviting us deeper into a cinematographic world so repugnant that it is almost impossible to look away.

2

X

Year of exit

2022

Execution time

1 hour, 45 minutes

X launches a trilogy of Ti West horror movies which includes Pearl (always the biggest film in Mia Goth) and Maxxxine. Each film has its charms, but X best suits the archetype Slasher thanks to its intrigue. Located in 1979, the film focuses on a group of young people trying to shoot an adult film. But the owners of their planned location do not take goodness what they are doing, and they are too ready to kill these young people for their transgressions.

At the surface level, X Offers the mixture of sex and violence that fans expect slashers, and the adjustment of the period is enough to remind the public of gender classics and Halloween and Friday 13. However, West uses these expected tropes as a springboard to offer more crunchy comments on everything, from reputation to old age. His artists (including the Lead Mia Goth and authentic franchise Shout Queen Jenna Ortega) is more than up to par, helping to create a horror film that makes you think when it does not make you scream with fear.

1

Black Christmas

Year of exit

1974

Execution time

1 hour, 38 minutes

As mentioned above, there is a constant debate on which the film is the first slasher. While I will always maintain that the answer is that of John Carpenter HalloweenYou can make a just case to Black ChristmasA vacation film on a killer tracking the members of a sorority. As another type of proto-splasher, the film presents familiar elements, especially young victims, a mystery killer and POV plans from the point of view of the killer.

Slasher fans appreciate Black Christmas For many reasons, including the intimate framework and memorable victims. The film is also remarkable for with John Saxon, that horror buffs can know the best for its role in the Nightmare on Elm Street Movies. In addition, the film features a pre-Superman Margot Kidder, which is very fun for all those who have always wanted to see how Lois Lane could get away in a horror film. Although it is not exactly in the subsequent slasher mold like Friday 13,, Black Christmas is a gift that continues to give.

Are you looking for a good slasher? It can be difficult to find those who deserve to be watched, given the number of bad films. Do not worry, however: each of these films is a real “cut” above the rest!
