Rapper Meek Mill handcuffed by cops outside NYC club after tip he might have had gun: sources

Rapper Meek Mill was handcuffed early Saturday morning outside a Midtown Manhattan nightclub as police searched his car for a gun, according to police sources.
Officers searched the car of the Philadelphia-born rapper, whose real name is Robert Williams, 38, around 4 a.m. after stopping three men in the vehicle, who matched the description and license plate in a tip they received about an armed man, according to TMZ.
“They just took me out of the car and handcuffed me in front of the whole club, it really embarrassed me in New York! I’m not afraid to go out without a gun…they had guns pointed in my face for no reason, I thought it was a prank,” the rapper said on X shortly after the incident.
Cops were told they needed to search Williams’ car for a gun after he was searched at the club, according to police sources. A bouncer thought he smelled a gun on Williams and told the rapper to get rid of everything he had. Williams put something in his car before returning to the club, according to sources.
Cops did not find a gun in Williams’ car.
In 2008, Williams was convicted of possession of a loaded gun in Philadelphia.
