New study explores effect of violent crime on individuals' mental health

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, more than 1 million violent crimes are committed each year in the United States. Although data on attacks, victims, and the community as a whole abound, researchers have rarely explored the impact of criminal incidents on the mental health of nearby residents.
