Raspberry Pi’s New Official Touchscreen Is Smaller and Less Expensive

Raspberry Pi has just launched a new 5 -inch variant of its Raspberry Pi Touch 2 display. This new screen is a more compact and cheaper version of the 7 -inch model that was published last year, and it is now available for the purchase of all the usual approved dealers of Raspberry Pi.
The new 5 -inch screen is at only $ 40, which is a significant drop in the price of $ 60 of its biggest brother. Despite its smaller size, it has the same resolution of 720×1280 pixels. It also shares a large part of the same features as the 7 -inch version, including a real capacitive multitouch panel. This supports the five fingers multitouch, so you can interact with it as you would with an ordinary tablet. It is also entirely supported by Raspberry Pi OS and is propelled directly from the Raspberry Pi host, so there is no need for an external power.
All the necessary cables, connectors and mounting equipment are included in the box, which we expect from Raspberry Pi kits. The display is also super easy to configure because it connects to your Raspberry Pi with a ribbon cable via the DSI port.
The new touch screen 2 is a real plug-and-play experience, with the capacitive touch screen operating as soon as the box is released with full support from the Linux driver (including Ubuntu). You don’t have to deal with manual calibration or hunting for the device trees. You just connect it to your Raspberry Pi, and you have a fully functional ready -to -use multi -tool screen.
This new screen looks like the 7 -inch but slightly smaller model. It is a cheaper and more compact option that always gives you the same features as the 7 -inch model, but working out of the box is a surprising addition.
This new touch screen will remain in production until the least January 2030, so if you plan a project around the new touch screen, you will not have to find replacement components for a long time. Presumably, Raspberry Pi himself will have a replacement model similar to this stage, where there will be third-party options with a similar design.
There was a story in the announcement describing how AI was used while trying to program an application for the new touch screen. Don’t worry, you don’t have to worry about more AI in your devices. It is not worth mentioning in case you are curious to use AI to create applications for the touch screen. The company has essentially said that after having tried, it is possible to create applications for the touch screen using AI, but there are a lot of stipulations, and it is not as easy as requesting a finished application.
You can buy both the 5 inch for $ 40 and the 7 inch for $ 60 at the moment on the official Raspberry Pi website. Keep in mind that you must buy it from an approved supplier, because they are not bought directly on the website.
