The Sony ULT Field 3 is part of Sony’s new 2025 ULT range, alongside the larger ULT Field 5 and the ULT Tower 9. It’s the smallest and most portable of the three, clearly aimed at people who want something sturdy, loud and easy to carry. Right now, Woot is selling a refurbished unit for $99.99, with free shipping for Prime members and a $6 fee for everyone else. As a “Grade A” refurbished unit, it has been inspected, tested and guaranteed to perform like new, with cosmetic wear that is not noticeable at arm’s length. It also comes with a one-year eReplacements limited warranty. The same speaker costs $125 on Amazon, and price trackers shows it hasn’t dropped there, so it’s a real drop rather than a recycled deal.
In real-world use, the ULT Field 3 leans heavily on bass. Sony has integrated a real woofer into a housing that remains backpack-friendly, and you can feel that low-frequency boost even at moderate volume. Enabling ULT mode pushes the bass further, which works well outdoors or in larger rooms, but it’s not subtle. Vocals can fade slightly into the background if you don’t change the sound. Speaking of which, the seven-band EQ in Sony’s Sound Connect app helps you dial things in, especially if you want a flatter profile for podcasts or background music. The speaker is IP67 rated, so it can handle dust, water and the occasional drop without much worry, note this PCMag Review. It also supports Party Connect, allowing you to link it to other compatible Sony speakers for wider coverage.
What do you think of it so far?
Battery life is another strong point, with up to 24 hours of playback when you don’t press the volume too much. At full volume, it’s closer to five hours, which is expected given the power of the bass. A quick charge helps: a 10-minute charge would give you about two hours of listening time, which is helpful when you forget to plug it in. It’s not the most balanced speaker for critical listening, and the app’s extras like DJ effects may seem gimmicky to some. But for portability, durability, and long battery life at this price, it’s a solid option if bass sound meets your needs.
