The way to save the Brooklyn seafront

Brooklyn: Re “Ships, Not Homes, for Brooklyn Port” (Editorial, September 26): the opposition of the Daily News at the Brooklyn Terminal Vision Plan Mal contempt for a crucial fact: this proposal will not destroy the seafront that works – it will save it.

Currently, dilapidated and dilapidated batteries along the Brooklyn seafront literally collapsed in the river. This proposal finances the construction of an entirely modern electrified port which can really receive ships from the 21st century and operate at a much higher capacity than today.

The plan also requires the creation of 500,000 square feet of updated industrial and commercial space. In total, the revised terminal would support around 2,000 jobs, against only 350 today. This is why this plan has the support of almost all maritime and industrial stakeholders, including the New York and New Jersey Shiping Association, the Maritime Association of the Port of NY & NJ, Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corp. and the localShoremen’s association.

The proposal of the plan to build thousands of new affordable houses on parts of the site does not injure the port; It is necessary to finance the reconstruction of the port at a time of massive federal budgets. The plan would also create 28 acres of new parks and public space, reconnecting communities at the seafront instead of blocking them.

We do not have to choose between a seafront, affordable accommodation and new parks. Our communities deserve the three, and this plan offers a path to bring us. sTate Sen. Andrew Gounardes

I can’t hide cruelty

Wappingers Falls, NY: I am a long -standing animal defender and I supported the effort to end the activity of transport horses in New York for a decade. Unlike the claims made by the practitioners of lenders to transport horses, Jill Adamski and Christina Hansen and the Twu, I do not make a penny of my efforts. Adamski did not mention that she had been filmed by working a horse after the promulgation of a challer. And the photo accompanying your editorial on September 22 (“why Adams returned to the trade of cars on horseback”) which praised this cruel and corrupt industry should have been one of their many horses seen to suffer and die instead of the usual glorified photo of a horse pulling a flowery car in a spring day. But you still couldn’t hide that the animal was chained from head to toe with a painful metal bar stuck in his mouth, drawing a car load of more than 900 pounds. Yliana Franco
