Readers sound off on defunding Planned Parenthood, ICE in courts and a killer’s plea deal

Congress plays policy with vital health care
Poughkeepsia, NY: Access to affordable health care is in serious danger. The congress has now adopted a bill not only radically reducing the funding of Medicaid, but trying to “defeat” Planned Parenthood of the program.
Medicaid serves more than 71 million people nationally, including more than 7 million in New York. This is a crucial program for our most vulnerable communities. Medicaid cuts and efforts to finance Planned Parenthood would make much more difficult for our communities to obtain essential care they need, including contraception, cancer screening, wellness examinations and more. These legislators are ready to sacrifice affordable health care of people across the country because of their opposition to abortion. They do politics with our health and our rights – and we have to stop them.
Without access to preventive and vital health care, we will see reduced productivity and an increase in absenteeism in the labor market, resulting in significant economic costs for everyone. From the point of view of public health, we will see an increase in easily avoidable diseases, medical treatment at a more expensive advanced stage, additional pressure on an already overloaded system and, ultimately, a drop in quality of life for all.
This fight aims to keep the doors of the Planned Parenthood health centers open, and for everyone’s ability to obtain high quality affordable health care, no matter how much money they earn or who are. We must unite to defend Medicaid and Planned Parenthood to protect access to health care for all. Say at Congress: Do not cut Medicaid, do not cut Planned Parenthood. Lisa Kaul, member of the Board of Directors, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund
Fear
Henderson, Nev.: Concerning a major bill of President Trump who was adopted in the House and the Senate, I am very grateful that the Congress and the American people have not fallen for the frightening tactics of the Democratic establishment. Listen, I heard that people could lose their health insurance because of children who strengthen diets. But if my memory serves me well, Trump’s decisive strike on Iranian nuclear installations was supposed to end the world. However, here, I write a letter to the Daily News. Go represent. David Tulanian
Not important
Milford, Pennsylvania: During his campaign, Trump promised to eliminate social security taxes. I see that this provision has disappeared from his “One Big Beautiful Bill”. What happened? I guess it was not worth fighting. He is. Robert K. Greco
Skin in the game
Forest Hills: I have a brilliant idea that I want the DESMS to have the courage to do. The legislation adopted by a thug and heartless guy hurts veterans and their families. My proposal: If you have signed this legislation, you have a skin in the game – you, your spouses and your children are written. This means that Eric Trump and you too, princess and all the representatives who slapped the face of the army. No postponement if you can sit behind a desk; No bone proceedings. It is the war against our soldiers. It makes us lower. So go ahead, DEMS, show how loose and stupid they are. These are not ordinary times. It is not time to be subtle. Make Ken and Barbie do something. Sometimes symbolism is everything you need. Shame on these horrible and insulting cowards. Write them. Stew

Glendale: In La Voix Laurie Aron: I declared that on January 6 was a so-called insurrection because there were no weapons (firearms, or similar) that I am aware that were confiscated from the participants of the riot (my term for the event). If it were an insurrection, there would have been weapons, and many of them. The reversal of the government without force majeure is ridiculous. Second, I condemn all acts of violence. Anyone who has committed acts of violence that day or any other should be punished accordingly. I stressed that Trump won in 2024. I personally refuse to call him a landslide victory since Trump won with just under 50% of the popular vote, not even a majority. I rightly pointed out that before the start of Trump on the day of the inauguration in 2017, there were violent demonstrations against him who are undoubtedly considered a crisis of anger! Illegal application
Smithfield, Pennsylvania: Ice and Homeland Security is on the wrong side of the law when they interfere with the judicial system to try to reject business so that they can choose and expel the petitioner-immigrant. I hope that any lawyer involved in such behavior loses their license to practice law. And the project of the chief Magat of construction of “Alligator Alcatraz” is disgusting. It is supposed to be a center to hold immigrants while waiting for the steps of procedure to determine whether the prisoners are subject to expulsion. Thus, many detainees are not really criminals and have not been sentenced for any crime. Why are they treated as dirt? Why are they threatened to be prosecuted by alligators? Trump’s actions are very similar to Hitler, based on the views of Stephen Miller’s purity of breed, white supremacy. Do not sit quietly while our nation is degraded. Trump is denied and Miller manipulates shamefully. Mary Terry
Food out of the table
Jamaica: In the voice Michael L. Wilson: I mean that I fully agree with your assessment of conditions on the east of Long Island with regard to the recent gathering of agricultural workers of immigrants by glacial agents. In the past, I too have traveled this area looking for good fresh products to bring home. I imagine that no worker to harvest corn, strawberries, grapes, etc., these crops are allowed to rot in the fields. For this reason, we, consumers, pay higher prices for the little that remains available. This man in the Maga hats behind is indeed part of the problem. It should be the last complain about selection / prices. As you said if with eloquence: “Look at your hat. There is your answer. ” Carlos R. Edwards
Childish attacks
Hammonton, NJ: Although all our presidents receive criticism and a good amount of insults, the insults towards our current president of Voicers are simply incredible. What is really incredible is that I don’t know many juveniles that even read the newspaper, and even less. It is good to see so many children write. I suppose that social media killing the newspapers were premature, and I am certainly excited because I always buy my newspapers every day. William Cook
The disagreement is not hatred
Brooklyn: Re “Mamdani must disavow the words of hatred” (editorial, July 2): I’m so tired of hearing Zionists throw around the word “hatred”. No group hates the same degree of venom as the Zionists. They had hated Palestinians for over 100 years, and each time the Arabs retaliate, the victims of Zionism are wrongly as hateful. The Zionists insist on the primacy of their absurd opinions and judge themselves more important. I do not agree. Gazans are greater. And slowly, people come to make the madness to allow the Zionists to gain the upper hand. I voted for Zohran Mamdani, just like the majority of Democrats. This is called democracy. So he doesn’t need to “disavow” anything. If a group has to repair its attitude, it is the Zionists who approve of the genocide currently committed in Gaza. Nick Smith
Gap
Plainview, Li: In a nation where the federal minimum wage is only $ 7.25 per hour, the NBA will now pay the MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander $ 24,000 per minute to play a game! What a country (and I don’t want to say that in the right direction)! Richard Siegelman
Lifetime
Clearwater, Florida: Bryan Kohberger will undoubtedly smile to his prison cell, then some (“advocacy agreement in the murder of four students from the University of Idaho”, July 3). As a doctorate. A criminology student, Kohberger knows more than your average criminal and murderer – however, not enough to avoid being caught. Again, maybe he wanted to get caught. Nevertheless, Kohberger deserves nothing less than death for his premeditated and odious crime. Instead, taxpayers will be overwhelmed for his life in prison. At 28, he was several years in advance. The big winner in this case is Kohberger, who can keep his life while those he struck in death has never had the opportunity. Not only is the result in Rek, but it stinks to the Haut Ciel.
