Gather the workers leave the work defeat

Holbrook, Li: For those who do not know Long Island, Eastern Long Island is very agricultural, corn, lettuce and strawberries with wine grapes, etc. Almost every weekend, we take a trip to the east to collect fresh fruits and vegetables in a number of long-standing farm stands.

Last weekend, we went to one of the older ones and were shocked by what we found: very little! There were almost no fresh products. But there were much higher prices. Apart from some register clerks, there were no workers to see, or inside or in the fields. The clerk admitted that their workers have evaporated. She said she didn’t know how long this decades who could stay in business. We then made another regular stop with the same result – few fresh products.

This weekend, we went to check another favorite farm stand and found tables, generally stacked with products, now covered with a single layer of pot plants – a lot of plants. The agricultural stands are large and small were the same: limited products but a lot of flowers shipped. A rapid journey of vineyards has revealed neglected vines and no worker in the field.

These are quasi-future America: limited choices and higher prices. Unusual for me, I held my tongue when a guy in a Maga hat behind me complained about selection and prices. I wanted to say to him, “Do you want to know why? Look at your hat. There is your answer!” Michael L. Wilson

Successful system

Glasgow, Scotland: I had a momentary little laugh while reading the letter from the Voice James McCaffrey where he proclaimed: “Socialism was a deadly failure.” He demonstrates that the pro-Trump crowd does not understand the word socialism, using it to summon evil. According to the World Happiness report sponsored by the United Nations, the five happiest nations in 2025 – Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Netherlands – are all directed, as you said, “the madness of democratic socialism”. So please, Mr. McCaffrey, stop promoting propaganda according to which democratic socialism is madness and bloody evil. An understanding and educated interpretation and interpretation of history will show that authoritarian fascism, a bit like America under your current Trump administration, and not democratic socialism, is the ancestor of violence and discord, while we are witnessing political assassinations and arrests as well as masked goon teams by violently bringing together immigrants who try to live the American dream. William Ina Kay

Be a rampart

Ithaca, ny: where devil are you, meaning. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and any other reasonable republican? You voted to advance the bill on the nightmare budget of President Trump who will leave 11.8 million Americans not insured by reducing $ 930 billion from Medicaid and who withdraws $ 300 billion of Snap, who feeds millions of low -income children and their families? Read the fucking bill, senators, and ask yourself how it will have an impact on the life of so many of your voters. How many hospitals will close in your states? How many children will die? Stop being so frightened by the large intimidator and do the right thing! Nina Miller

Legal protest

Manhattan: in Voice Thomas Murawski: a so-called insurrection? On January 6, 2021, a horde supported by Trump attempted to overthrow a legitimate election, in particular by threatening to kill the vice-president who was there to certify him. Trump has forgiven all these people. Yes, he legitimately won in 2024, if barely by a landslide (77.3 million for Trump against 75 million for Kamala Harris, while 85.9 million did not vote). However, its popularity is tanking. Surveys show that people do not support prices, deportations because they are carried out or abandon bombs on Iran. Violence should never be accepted. But millions of people have been proved to be one day without completely non -violent violence and put the demonstrations, and the demonstrations, and thereafter. Trump never-trumpers and regrettable voters are under this large tent. It is not a crisis of anger, it is a movement – a joyful pro -democracy movement like those against the authorities of the whole world. Laurie Aron

Scarsdale, NY: I watched the defense secretary Pete Hegseth to dodge questions with a smile, saying that he would not answer the hypotheses. This seems to be the essential answer to unpleasant requests these days. If I interviewed a candidate for a job and gave him a problem to solve, and their answer was that they could not do it because it was a hypothetical, I am sure that I would interview the next applicant in the blink of an eye. John Kern

Face of injustice

Manhattan: Thank you for publishing the photo of Amy Coney Barrett on your editorial page on Saturday (“National Buthury”, editorial, June 28). I cut it and put it directly on the Bullseye of my Dart board. Joy Anderson

Clumsy guy

Manhattan: Voice William T. Bredin compared the Senator of Louisiana John Kennedy to Foghorn Leghorn. I do not agree. The senator actually looks like and looks like Mr. Haney of “Green Acres”. Manny Morales

Costs to do business

Brooklyn: Re “Small owners also need help on costs” (OP-ED, June 29): Thank you, gentlemen, for declaring the evidence. Doing business in this city is at best difficult. Of all the companies in this city, 98% are considered small. They employ less than 100 people, but in many cases, they are unpaid family members who work towards the American collective dream. However, regulations, taxes and costs are even the most successful. Inspections three times a year with costs of $ 600, taxes to support MTA and a variety of city services and regulations that limit expansion. For owners, it’s even worse. As you said, you support the families of your buildings. It is not in your interest to provide poor service, all due to the limitation of rules and regulations. I am happy to repeat your words: “They say they freeze the rent; We say, then freezes our expenses. Geerage land taxes and water / sewers prices. ” Susan Caprio

Radical cover

Bayside: As you might expect, the tabloids in New York like you and your competitor are either scary or catch up with the alleged Democratic candidate for the mayor of our big city. I am sure that many of your readers would benefit from learning the only candidate who has a viable plan to advance NYC in the better future, and it’s Curtis Sliwa. Please try to practice journalism and provide the public a fair and balanced report on all candidates. Margaret Dabraccio

Rich in wealth

Staten Island: in the voice Dan Arthur Pryor: do not fear the possibility of a drain of wealth outside the city – it seems that we can save some. According to a recent article, NYC has exceeded 50 richest cities in the world. Manhattan is home to 384,500 million millionaires, 818 centils and 66 billionaires. Are they rich, do you remember? They probably already have a mansion and a yacht in Florida. The other cities of the top 10 were the Bay Area ranked second, the Fifth and Chicago 10th. Something seems similar in all these cities, would you not say? Personally, I don’t feel bad for the rich, but I’m sorry for the poor soul trying to win $ 16.50 per hour. Gina Ottrando

High -end

Suffern, NY: The Giants of San Francisco erect a replica of the statue of Barry Bonds, but its head is so large that it continues to overthrow. Rick Sinclair

Too far away

Congers, NY: Re “Hochul’s Smart Atomic Boost” (Editorial, June 27): the nuclear “boost” of Governor Hochul is a serious waste of time and money. An “advanced nuclear power plant on zero emission” is a speculative project that will probably cost tens of billions of dollars and cannot be designed, located, approved and built in less decades. It is not used immediately to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It is more corporate socialism, redirect the public resources of ordinary citizens who could benefit from continuous government investment in decentralized residential solar measures and efficiency of final use, as well as in wind and solar farms and their storage technologies that support it. Such investments can attack the supply of electrical energy much more quickly and at a lower cost while creating and supporting many more jobs. Jeff Kluewer

Crowdfund

Staten Island: in Voice Steven Vaiselberg: Can I suggest you make a GoFundme page to secure the necessary funds to recover your family from American soil. People are crawling for less than the potential catastrophic result of what could happen to your family. May Hashem be with them on their trip. Myra goodman
